Respect to the man. A well written statement, no excuses, showing others the proper way to take a loss. Despite his failures I still think he is one of boxings good guys.
IMO? Audley turned up in shape, thinking he would win. For once he really had the eye of the tiger. Sadly it was too late for him, you could see the pain in the mans eyes when he finally came round. The pain of a man that thought if he could test that chin of price? it was game on. Its probably driving Audley nuts right now that he didnt get the chance to test Priceys chin, he got beat to the punch and the rest is history. In his two biggest fights, Audley never landed his honeypunch & it must hurt like hell. The what iffery wil probably see him continue sadly enough.
I have a feeling that Audley Harrison won't retire, he seems to be taking too long to decided..? But hey, its hard to walk away, like Oscar De La Hoya stated. You never stop being a athlete or having that mentality that......."If i just try one more time, if i just give it one more go"...that's why you see fighters carrying on chasing the past. I have a feeling he wants to carry on, but i don't know what else he could do. I am sure there will always be fights out there, but Audley Harrison may just have to realise that. Winning the Olympic Gold Medal, the first Olympic Gold Medal for 32 years, inspiring a generation and solidifying the future of Amateur boxing was his destiny and legacy! It was the rise and fall of the mythical legend that is A-FORCE!
I loved the line 'Father Time has caught up with me', as if one upon a time he performed at a notably higher level.
The only difference is, Oscar De La Hoya has a legendary professional career.... While A-farces career has been a farce!
He acheived a gold medal, won a European strap, made lots of money and fought for the world title. Granted he didn't live up to his hype but has Frankie Gavin? He was the spawn of Sweet Pea to listen to this forum yet his best win so far has been trumped by Magic Matty Hatton. Audley is a pantomine villain and the bloke people love to hate, I wish him all the best in life in success and health, I just hope Saturday was the last of him in the ring.
