If Audley had enough balls he probably would, but I think he would be too scared to let his hands go and gets tagged himself before finding the courage to go after Fury. Would be a funny matchup :yep (but it wouldn't be good)
Harrison would bottle it like he always does, and fight scared and probably get KO'd like a big girl.
Agree with this. Wobbled against Cammarelle (sp?) in the Olympics and a few KD's/KO's during his am career and all of a sudden he's glass jawed. Not seen him in trouble in his pro career - including the free shot he gave to his opponent on his debut when he dropped his gummy. Plus - at HW, people can bang. No disgrace to go down from a shot from a 16stone+ man. I think until he gets laced by Tyson reincarnate, square on the jaw, while he has both hands behind his back, he'll be labelled glass jawed. But then, Ali went down from a left hook from Frazier didnt he? Chin chin hype job.
I don't remember Harrison outboxing anyone, not anyone good anyway. He's either outpunched a much smaller foe - like the Brazilian a while back - or been outboxed himself, by Williams, Sprott before the KO etc. It's not going to happen, Mick has just about picked himself up by his bootstraps, not going to risk ****ing up his TV deal by putting on the perennially boring Harrison, and paying through the nose for it.
And as for Fury v Audley... I would fully expect Fury to be outboxed up until the point he lands a shot, Audley sh!ts himself backs up and gets stopped. That could be 30 seconds into the first round or 30 seconds from the end of the last. But either way, that would be my bet. Not sure Audley would get the backing of TV though given his history. Surely even channel 5 would go "Fury v Harrison? No. We'd rather stick Speed 2 on".
There's always the part of WHO did the knocking down and the circumstancs of those knockdowns, wich makes all the difference. The late and great Joe Frazier got punched of his feet 6 times in 2 rounds (3 times a round) against Foreman. That doesn't mean he has a glass jaw or something, that means he has heart... If he was out cold at the 1st KD, that COULD have meant he had a glass jaw. But then again he was fighting one of the hardest hitters in boxing history. Also Wlad KD's were all from heavy hitters, and the vast majority happened in only 3 fights (Sanders, Brewster and Peter). I don't know who KD'd or KO'd that Price caracter, but if they're known big hitters it's too early to rate his punch resistance. That's also beyond me, certainly knowing how many active boxers they have in the pro heavyweight ranks. I recently counted more as 40% of the active HW's being from the US! Freakin' 40%!!!! :scaredas:
Harrison would defo have a chance but Fury is mainly open to the right hand over the top which Audley as a Southpaw is unlikely to throw that much. Fury's preparation for that last fight apears to have been **** so lets see if Mick gets him to sort it out for the next one. A Harrison fight would still do good business but the risk if he were to lose is huge for mick.
I'm not a fan of Fury but to give him his credit he got back up after that massive right hand. He is providing a bit of entertainment and buzz on the scene which the sport is lacking. He is a bit of a character. I dont ant to hear fcking Audley comparisons at least Fury comes to fight.
I read somewhere a while back that the majority of athletes in the States are now going into NFL/NBA due to the lack of focus on boxing. Would make sense as to why we're not seeing many great American heavies of late, but not sure if this is true or not.
True about the knockdowns. It depends how hard the puncher is. As for America not producing good heavyweights, it makes no sense. The often stated "all America's hw's are in the nfl" is rubbish in my opinion. Only a tiny amount of ahthletes get into the nfl.
Journalists keep saying this, only the other day an article in the telegraph stated this again. The fact is any country can say all their best fighters are in other sports. Maybe Beckham could have been the best super middleweight in the world. Who knows, right? It's really disrespectful to the Klitschko's. I don't remember people saying this before they became champions.
Point taken - I dont profess at all to know the legitimacy of the claim - just that it's been said a few times. I'd be interested to know though how much investment and interest there is in boxing in the states at a grass root level. For example, any public funds going into gyms? Boxing being part of the school curiculum at any level or in any region? How much support, if any, is afforded to the amatuer set up etc? It's all stuff that's done over here in differing amounts depening on region but it's certainly helped. I done an interview a while back with Liverpool City Council's boxing development officer and the work they do in the community is unreal. And that's been happening for about ten years. If you look at the number of active scouse fighters and the number of scousers that are either in or were in contention for an olympic place next year then it's obvious that the benefits are there.
Another thing about the "Audley Harrison would KO Fury cold" statement. Does Fury read ESB? Because reading things like that with his depression issues can't be too healthy for him... Being compared to Audley 'freakin' Harrison would already be a major insult for most heavies, let alone being expected to get KO'd cold by him. :think
