Would Audley have achieved more if he'd signed with Frank Warren earlier. Instead of having the added burden of promoting himself.
Yep. He could have been a WBU champ for years. I can not see much reason for Warren to have put Audley in with any better opposition than Audley did. Audley would have come up short when he moved up no matter who promoted him.
I agree he might have got exposed because of his chin. But Warren might have kept Audley's ego in check which could only have benefited him.
I dont get this whole Warren WBU thing. he never promotes the fights as world title fights. Harrison would have done alot better and made more money. Would of had a title shot by now.
It would only have delayed the inevitable for longer. No matter what you say about Frank, he is the best in the business at giving fighters low risk, high reward fights, it takes a very slick operator to do that. The main problems with Warren are the ego, and his obsession with the WBO.
I actually really like Audley and respect him as I fighter. I also wanted him to beat Danny Williams and I hope his comeback is successful. I think his career played out the same way it would have if he had bee with Warren. He made a decent amount of money but could have possibly done beter.
Warren is sticking with Harrison right now because Haye (as the fan fav) vs Harrison (as the bad guy) would sell out the 02 and maybe even Wembley if they both had belts, which is not that inconcievable by the end of 09 with warrens match making skills.
FW would have made AH shed loads of money. Just as he has done with Khan he would have used the olympic medal for good PR and make the public think the sun shines out his batty. As it happened AH went to BBC and became a friend of the stars etc. Now he is scared in fights. Can you imagine him in the ring with Sonny Liston (the Dutch one) on his current form ? He would **** his pants for most the fight as he did in the first Williams fight. The guy needs a couple of wins to get his confidence back.
I think that Warren would have got him a title fight for one of the four major belts. Big money. Harrison basicaly blinked when it was within his grasp. He was an olympic gold medalist briefly ranked within the top 10 by ring magazine. A smart promotor could have sold that to a beltholder as a big money low risk title fight.
Can't really feel bad for Audley though, while his fistic pride has taken a battering he should be financially set for life already.
Would of picked better opponents to test Audley, Audley promoting himself was a disaster, picked so many journeymen he learned nothing by the time he was Ko'ed.
