I don't see what the big deal is! Fined for what?? You gonna tell Audley is gonna be fined because he couldn't catch up to Haye to throw punches! Audley was trying to counterpunch against an extrtemely slick defensive fighter, it aint easy.
with all due respect even I would have done better. I would have get knocked out in the first round but i would have thrown punches. and the crowd would be happy
Just pay the man his money for crying out loud. To Audleys credit, he started out trying to do the right thing, like he was trying execute a plan, but he allowed Haye to manoeuvre him out of center ring, now when you have a guy that is trying to slip inside your lead to counter, or to get inside, and your going backward, you can become a bit more reluctant to commit to something, to put something out there, cause you know he has a better shot at slipping inside your punch when your moving backward, and the guy can potentially sell out with a punch cause there is little space behind you(the ropes) to avoid it. This is not an excuse for Harrison, but its part of the reason I think Harrison holstered his punches. It should come as no surprise that Haye did not throw much himself until he had maneuvered Harrison into this position.
Terry, you're right again. How can anyone pick on how someone fights an ATG puncher? You do what you gotta do, right? :conf
I can't believe any of you think this was even a legit fight. It was clearly a set up between two old mates. Harrison was never intended to win, they had it all worked out before hand. Trouble is they didn't have a clue how to make it look good. Fined? They should both be banned.
Commission is just trying to justify itself. They sanctioned this piece of **** and now they are catching heat.Politics and all for show.Pay the man his money and get on with life.
Maybe there should be a poll for those who paid for that disgrace to decide. Here BTW every Haye fan swears he/she didn't buy it, I mean NOBODY bought it it seems, it just happened to generate 700k.
A similar thing happened back in 2007, when the commission denied Oliver McCall's paycheck for his unwillingness to compete in the Lewis mismatch. If memory serves, McCall went without pay for that fight.. I did not see the Harrison vs Haye bout, but if he loses his wages, it won't be the first time in heavyweight history that this has occurred.
The thought of punishing Harrison for being in a fight he could never win in a million years, is way too harsh. Yes, he was being overly cautious throughout, but can you blame him? He knew the moment he would try to do anything, Haye would pounce on him with a fight-ending counter. He knew his only chance was to drag it out and take it to the later rounds, where through divine intervention, Haye could possibly tire and not be as explosive. He was in way over his head, and could only muster what his limited ability allowed him to.
