Audley; worst European Heavyweight Champ, since...

    Nice post, fair points...

    The thing that annoys me about Audley is it should of been so much better. He had all the tools to be a real threat in the division.

    His chin and lack of true world class power would I feel ultimately of cost him being considered amongst the very best in the division, but if he had put the drive and determination into his pro career that he did in the Olympics, he could of been an alphabet champ by 2004/05.

    Audley did have amazing handspeed, dexterity and coordination, he should of used that more as a pro. He needed to be more aggressive and use potentially excellent ring generalship skills to outpoint world class operators.

    But sadly that Million pound pay day at the start of his career, was not the catalyst to becoming the next big thing in British and European boxing, but the beginning of a slide, that now sees him desperately trying to hype a last gasp victory over a fighter struggling to be a top 50 in the world, as the next step to a world title.

    There are many fine prospects in Britain with real potential, and proper work ethics. I thing they should be given the chance to shine, in an era of limited opportunities on TV, for what is now sadly (in no small part because of Audley's abuse of BBC money) turning into a minority/fringe sport.

    im judging him on his last performance, which wasnt very good until the finish but it was a very entertaining fight - something very hard to find at heavyweight these days so ill give him props.

    I agree - he was defo given too much too soon - Not AHs fault though. Like everyone, professional or personal, we'd all take the last 10 years of our lives and prob change it. I just think he has ****ed uo and come thru it, He may not have time on his side now. But I like the fact that he has the Euro title and (even if not winnable and deserved) he may get his title shot. Good luck to him. And maybe, just maybe...........

    The title that Audley curently holds is quite a prestigeous one historicaly.

    The previous title holders include Max Schmeling and Ingemar Johansen.

    Why is this a **** thread?

    Just because Harrison has somehow become flavour of the day by beating the weakest lineup witnessed thus far in Prizefighter and landing a Hail Mary in the 12th round of a fight he was losing easily doesn't remove the right to a bit of criticism.

    Especially when talking about a ''proper'' title like the European. Most European heavies that have succeeded consistently at world level or been competitive have held the title with distinction..... when guys like Audley are in the mix despite having done **** all you know it's a damning indictment on the division and the European title as a whole, which does seem to be heading down the Commonwealth route of sanctioning anybody with a head, two arms, two legs and a dick.

    The division sucks full stop, don;t think its ever been worse. In years gone by Audley wouldnt warrant the title, no doubt. But in the current climate of shite, fair play to him. Personally, I find it equally galliing wathcing 2 robots contest the world title every other month when in years gone by they probably wouldn;'t make the top 20

    Why is this thread warranted, Audley has more chance of winning a world title than Paul Smith, who is utter rubbish, yet i read a thousand posts stating Paul Smith is the next big thing.

    Because there is an argument to say a title that in its different forms (EBU/IBU etc), has had a history of some brilliant to very good fighters win its belt. But Audley is such, he may just be the worse for a very, very long time. Thus surely it is not a good thing that in an era when the sport is really struggling he becomes champion?

    What's that got to do with Audley, the heavyweight division has had a great history with great champions, and now is controlled by two robots.

    Agreed mate. Anyone that can spark a bit of interest in the division is good by me. I would love it if Audley ****ed one of them robots off. I know I have more chance of winning the lotto 3 weeks running but a man can dream

    If you do not like the Klitschko's (and I am no great fan either), surely it is better that the EBU title belongs to a worthy champion, because an EBU reign can get you a top 10 ranking in an alphabet organization?

    And personally, I would be mighty pissed off if one of Klitschkos fogged off a match with Audley on us, when there are better Heavyweights in Britain, let alone Europe!
