    I remember it well!

I didn't properly start following the sport until the early 90s but Tyson was the first boxer I remember being aware of, mostly because my older brother had told me about him.

Everyone was watching Tyson in the 80s - he was mainstream back then in a way that fighters no longer are so you didn't need to know anything about boxing to know the name Mike Tyson and what it meant.

1987 was when he cleaned up the titles but wasn't at his most destructive then (that came the following year) - he went the distance with Bonecrusher Smith and Tucker.

Spinks had ducked Tucker who would have comfortably beaten him.He was champ in lineage only.

I don't know if he ducked him. From what I understand he was offered half a million dollars to fight Tucker but 4 million dollars for Cooney. I wouldn't call that ducking as much as I'd call it business.

I still think Spinks was not going to beat many of the 80's heavies besides an old Holmes... Cooney was past it.. Tangstead was as bad as most of David Haye's first heavies and then he gets squashed like a bug... but felt bad for him when I saw what his face looked like as he marched to his doom with Tyson...

Tucker didn't fight for 2.5 years after Tyson. He probably knew he couldn't beat a peak Tyson.
