Can anyone tell me anything about Oyewale Omotoso. I see he has a nice 13-0 11 KO record, but with no real tests. I'm an Augustus fan and hope he has one more decent run, but I was wondering if Omotoso has a chance of derailing it before it even starts. Thanks.
Oyewale is one of if not the best prospect in the country. Flown under the radar somewhat but winning this should really put him on the map. Tall and wirey with serious concussive power in both hands. Nice stand up skills from a solid amateur background. Another prospect at the time he beat him in Sam Colomban was getting probably bigger wraps then Oyewale..But Omotoso smashed him, pretty much shut him out dropping him twice and apparently breaking something in his face, eye socket or cheek bone. He does tend to load up a bit to much but he has shown he is a very good ring general thus far. An inshape and focused Augustus will probably be a lot of trouble for him and I think this fight can go either way. I think there is only one or two videos of him floating around on the net...though his promoter's website I think would have a lot of his fights for sale..One of them is from the first time I saw him. I really wasnt that impressed at first, he didnt look that great and before I could even digest it all BANG!! He ended it very brutally with a beaut counter left and that did impress me. He has had a few easy beats in the last year, so he might be a tad rusty which is not a good thing to be against the Drunken Master. Really looking forward to this one.
DSS had him on his radio show only last monday. Came across as a likable fella with ambition, and not affraid to take on a challenge as this match-up shows. Mentioned that he plays soccer at weekends to stay fit.
Seems like Omotoso won by knockout... Would appreciate any further info on this. Augustus is not often stopped...
Was last night, Flamengo was supposed to have been there but hasn't answered my text. Probably something to do with some sheila..
Unless desperate, visiting sailors have changed their name to Sheila, I doubt very much this would be the case! :deal
Last night was the best fight I've seen in Oz since Ndou v Ben Rabah. Omotoso showed an extraordinary arsenal and defensive skills and Augustus was brave and brilliant until Wale's power won the day. Magnificent stuff and he can't be too far from a world title shot.
Augustus himself said in a post-fight interview that this is the first time he's been stopped by a punch. Seems like Omotoso has some good power, at least. Certainly interested in seeing him now.
Sorry for enjoying the beers at the stadium on Friday night.... Omotoso looked fantastic against the well schooled Augustus. I was with a certain Sheila who was doing her best to keep Augustus' missus from having a fit... Oyewale is more than the average fighter that makes his name in the local fight arenas, in my opinion, he will take huge steps in the world scene over the next 12 months. He looks impressive an all angles of his game.. A great puncher with the ability to remain focussed when his mans in trouble, he certainly has the goods to go far. With the mild-mannered promotor in Murray Thompson aware of the sharks in the game, Oyewale will be safe from the hands of the Fenechs etc.
Congats to Oyewale! Great effort to stop Augustus, who although he's got a 50/50 record, had only been stopped 3 times in 74 bouts prior to this one.
