In my opinion both these guys had excellent boxing skills, alot of heart, Strudy chins, Ring savvy, Both had fast hands although i give Davila the edge here. Paulie had more titles and more defenses, but Davila fought the best and only lost to the best.

I also feel Paulies status went down by moving up and getting beat by Morales,Barrera. It shoulnt be forgotten that he was a helluva fighter at Bt.

Davila going 1-1 against Pintor also counts for a lot.

Im taking Davila in a hth matchup, but who would you rate higher as far as resume, skill,Hth, etc etc?

 Ok you got me but i cant edit that:patsch You know what im talking about.

Hey GPater you i know that you are very knowledgeable on the lighter weight fighters who do you like in this fight HTH?

HTH i got Davila but overall resume Ayala has done some good stuff and i think he is underrated. Give me your opinion HTH and overall ranking as to who you would rank higher?

WOW  I would have thought you seen some of Paulie.

im sure there is easy access to his fights with Tapia. His fight in 99 was rings FOTY so catch that one Paulie at his best, i believe he was even named fighter of the year by the Ring. Check that one out and get back with me., also i thought that fight could have gone either way. Tapia got robbed in the 2nd fight though.

Two great guys..two favorites of mine. I guess I have to agree that Davilla has the edge over all..but Ayala was a fine fighter as well as being one of the classier guys ala Floyd Patterson in the sport. I always rooted for him.

When I no longer went to the gym I still used to do some training on my own - bag work, I'd always use the audio from that first Tapia fight to time my rounds. Great for the purpose, action all the way with the momentum switching back n forth between Ayala and Tapia - good for keeping your intensity up. And good chat from the corners in the intervals - Roach "come back with that right hand you'll knock the son of a ***** out"

Ayala wasn't just good at Bt, but all the way up to Super Bt (Tapia rematch, and both Bones fights).

If he'd retired after the second win over Bones, with just that one loss, he'd be remembered very kindly. Featherweight was a bad idea.

I like Ayala here, over whatever the scheduled distance is (12 or 15) in a close and fun one.

BTW anarci, you can actually edit the mistake out of the thread title. Go into the main Classic forum view, and double click right next to the thread (in the blank space just to the right). It will open up a text entry box where you can make changes to the title. :good

I dont have to much apprehension about siding with Davila..He was just an all around better fighter IMO.

But Ayala at his best though is going to run him pretty close.
