No not IMO. I'd actually like to see him do enough to get there. However, it appears unlikely unless he takes on bigger challenges very soon. As Rock said, Tony (Snr) would be closer.
lol. If he 'steals' another victory against Soliman, that must place him in the top 5.. Top 3 if he beats Nishizawa again... leaving him a little behind Frankie Flannery and 'Bronco' Johnston.
Had this lying around from about two years ago: Les Darcy Lionel Rose Kostya Tszyu Jeff Fenech Dave Sands Jimmy Carruthers Young Griffo (would probably be a lot higher if his life wasn't such a mystery) Jack Carroll Ron Richards Vic Patrick Johnny Famechon Tony Mundine Hector Thompson Rocky Mattioli Paul Ferreri Haven't included Vic because he's still active.
Good list AFF. Hard to critisize that 15. Must get off my butt and have a crack at it - trouble is I always leave someone obvious out - and it takes about 5 minutes for someone to point it out!
Thanks for the kind words. I find a lot of people will rate the likes of Barry Michael, Lester Ellis and Jeff Harding what in my opinion is a little too high. Sure they won world titles, but in the day of Vic Patrick, Jack Carroll and Ron Richards there was eight divisions and one world title in each. You had to go through the best in Australia and the British Empire to get to the world scene and winning the commonwealth title was a huge feat back then. Some of those guys won it in multiple weight divisions and while Ellis, Michael and Harding were great fighters, I don't think they were any greater then the Australian or Commonwealth champions of yesteryear. Still, I'm not going to jump down anyones throat for ranking those guys ahead of the old timers, I've done my research and I think the list should go that way. If someone else disagrees thats fine, they just better hope they've done their research if they criticise mine hehehe.
Good point.........and tend to agree...... however what % do we need to scale that thinking back a little because of increased transport, loads more cash, better training, greater talent pool.....I mean we are talking the 40's here against the 80's and 90's?
Good points mate, although i've got Harding clearly above Michaels and Ellis. I'd probably have Harding sneaking in top 15 but looking at your list i don't know who to shift..... very tough.
If you've done your research, why do you rate Fenech so high??? Perhaps never unifying a division tickles yout fancy? If you've done your research, why is Griffo 'such a mystery' and rated 7?? The Maxie Moore decision against Griffo in the Fight with Jack McAullife went down in history as the most ridiculous decision ever. Griffo would have been F/W and L/W champ... not that he cared.
Fenech's resume matches up as well as just about anyones in Australian history. Some of the guys were past their best or before their peak, but Fenech butchered them. There aren't a whole lot of the lower divisions that have been unified since Fenech fought. From Featherweight down you've had Vazquez unifiy 122, Naz and Marquez unify 126 and Vic unify 115. That's all I can think of off the top of my head so criticising Fenech for not doing this at that point in history when few were unifying any titles is a tad silly. I've got no problem with people ranking Fenech lower, but to speak of ranking him at four like it's ******ed while not putting a list of your own up is, well, ******ed. As for Griffo, I find it hard to rank people who there is zero footage of properly with the exception being Harry Greb who's record speaks for itself. Not much is known of Griffo, period so I have a hard time ranking him over out past champions who's fights I have seen. Maybe the fair thing to do would be just to leave him out altogether but I think he deserves to be in the list based on his legend so I put him just below the champions and just above the contenders.
Well they obviously don't compare then do they? :nut Just so you know, you're a c*nt, the whole world thinks you're a c*nt and I shall now send you a text msg to confirm this
