What I think is VERY interesting is what Larry Merchant said. He is known for preferring the puncher/brawler above all else. He had Canelo winning but he admitted he could see Trout getting the victory as well. Very interesting.
you cant cry when you call out another fighter, get knocked down and only outland your opponent by 30 punches. trout had to outpunch canelito by 40+ and not get knocked down to have any case for a robbery. there are fights where a champion outlands an opponent by 100+(dlh/mosley 2,dlh/tito) and loses so trout has nothing to base his case on. not everyone is as lucky as paq(marquez) or Hopkins(pascal)
Trout had to win CONVINCINGLY to stand a chance of getting a decision win. BrassBoy promotions made sure Canelo had every advantage born out by the ludicrous scorecards. As it happened it was a very close fight which I had Trout winning but wouldn't have been upset with a draw or a point either way. Oh & BTW please do not blame Texas how many of the judges were Texans??? I think Canelo owes Trout a rematch at the very least
Trout playing along he knows he is an outsider with no real connections I admire the restraint cause I would be losing my mind
Well that wouldn't be the first time a guy deserved the nod but was humble and deferential about not getting it. (Chambers vs. Adamek springs to mind) It's more a testament to the character of guys like Trout & Chambers than "proof" the verdict was the right one.
Afterwards Trout said that he did enough to win the fight. Didn't say it was a robbery but thought he won the fight.
it was a close fight but knocking down and wobbliing trout several times along w ring generalship and better defense gives canelo the nod in my book. trout may have landed more but canelo definitely landed the cleaner, more effective punches.
