According to this article negotiations are under way for an August bout for Mundine to challenge Trout for his 'regular' WBA JMW title. I know with Mundine you expect the worst but should it come off what does everyone here think of this fight? Has anyone here seen much of Trout? Here is the beginning of the article: Three days. That's all the time off Louie Burke is giving 154-pound WBA champion Austin Trout before returning to training. Fresh off his first title defense - a unanimous decision victory on Saturday over David Lopez in Mexico - Trout is already looking to the next fight. "You don't hear of champions fighting very often but Austin is giving guys a crack at the title and he's fighting guys everyone else is avoiding," Burke said. "He's representing the WBA very well, fighting legit contenders in their backyard." Negotiations are underway for a fight in August against Australian right-hander Anthony Mundine. Mundine is 42-4 with 25 knockouts. He has already held the WBA belt in the super middleweight (168 pounds) and the middleweight (160 pounds) divisions. "Most likely, probably, we will fight Mundine next in Australia," said Trout, who improved to 23-0. "He is trying to make history as a three-time WBA world champion and I'm trying to make history of my own. He is a right hander with decent movement. He has a good record but has fought mostly journeymen. "It would be good money against a good opponent. It would be a two-time world champion and a great opponent to put on my resume." While Mundine is his next likely opponent, Trout is also thinking further down the line... Anthony would have to be considered the under dog here. Trout is coming off two impressive performances both in Mexico against Mexicans. His title winning effort and his first defense. He barely lost a round in either bout. He is much younger then Choc (25 V 36) and is much more natural at the weight. Miguel Cotto holds the 'super' WBA LMW Title.
You better believe that Team Boxa have targetted Trout because they believe he is the weakest champ out there at the moment. Therefore Team Boxa buying a title shot simply because they have the money to bring out who they perceive to be the weakest, newest 154lb world champ doesn't impress me - it's Mundine's last clutch of the straw so he'll be hoping he can step up on the night or win via points robbery. No doubt he'll be wanting this fight to take place in QLD :hey
Trout is an natural light middleweight - he's fought there the past 4 years or so anyway. He is in his mid 20's, undefeated and probably at his very peak. To complicate things, Trout also happens to be a southpaw. What can you say about Mundine that hasn't already been said? He's 36. His career has been all over the place like a mad women's breakfast. His hip is shot, and he's got a bung eye. Mundine hasn't fought a southpaw for over 10 years, and he's probably never fought under the light middleweight limit in his life either.
look, if mundine can pull this fight off then good on him, getting a decent enough opponent out for a seemingly legit title is worthy of praise, and i will support him, ive seen a little of trout and he is quite decent and truthfully i cant see mundine beating him unless he suddenly regains some of his pop and ring presence.
Trout is a decent fighter and pretty tricky... close fight and Mundine needs the fight to happen in Australia in order to stand a better chance
good on Mundine if this happens.believe it when i see it though.taking on a young in his prime opponent who though i have never seen but Ipswich Express rates highly is a good move after the less than stellar opponents hes faced since Geale.sounds like he will get beaten.
There seems to be a lot of noise from both party's re this fight. IF this goes ahead then plenty of people on here might have to eat some humble pie :yep
If Mundine wins I'll have my plate ready Bulij. More likely I'll be helping hand plates out though mate, and I've got a big one set aside for my mate Ash.
If he lands the fight and makes weight, Then gets bashed for 12 rounds he will just come out and say . "I was weight drained and had to starve myself" :hey
""He has already held the WBA belt in the super middleweight (168 pounds) This content is protected divisions."" When was this??
