Australian Boxing is a joke

    The cheap, amateurish production that was "Superboxer" was meant to herald the return of boxing to Australian Television. Unfortunately all it heralded was the mass-ignorance of the Australian public towards boxing. Two of the four televised fights had extremely contentious endings, and our local fighter Billy Dib received the most atrocious display hometown refereeing I have ever witnessed.

    For anyone who didn't see it, Billy Dib faced Kenichi Yamaguchi in the main event of this low-budget promotion. After suffering a flash knockdown early in round one, Billy "The Kid" eventually began to sit down on his punches and appeared to momentarily stun Yamaguchi, who backed up and slipped as his foot hit the edge of the ring. Whether it was a legitimate knockdown or not was immaterial as no sooner than Yamaguchi got to his knees did Billy wind up and crack him in the face with a big left hook. Rather than reprimand Billy for his flagrant foul and offer Yamaguchi recovery time, the referee sent Billy to a neutral Corner, began a count, then promptly waved the fight off when Yamaguchi didn't respond to his questions.

    Then the **** got real. :patsch

    Yamaguchi began a minor Zab Judah performance, giving the referee a shove. He then approached Billy who cut his celebration long enough to shove him in the chest, then turn to one of Yamaguchi's cornermen and shove him too. Before you know it about 30 people are in the ring shoving and threatening each other, a melee almost as bad as the Kickett/Elomar fiasco in the central coast last year.

    Are we the first country in the world to display **** refereeing, hot headed fighters and ring invasions? Nah. Well, maybe it's not so common to have them all in the one fight, but still, Nah...

    But the level of arse-kissing that went on by the analysts afterwards was a ****in' disgrace. They all wanted to talk about how "exciting" the night was and how Billy Dib did what he set out to do, seeming to ignore the big fat elephant in the room. Remember to tune in next week folks!

    Nope! But we shouldn't be trying to "help". As boxing fans we should expect better. You know as well as I do that it was a farce.

    Hell, evern Blly probably would have preferred a point deduction and recovery time for his foe as to let the fight continue and notch a more convincing win. It turned into a friggin circus in there, man... :-(

    It was pretty embarrassing.

    They should ban Billy Dib fights from being broadcasted, or even filmed for that matter. :yep

    I still haven't seen any footage so I will give Dib a break because I have seen the better side of him.......a fighter in his position needs to make every post a winner....you get totally pumped for this and the adrenalin and fright flight response replaces your better judgement

    We thought all we had to do is turn up!

    With Lords almost guranteed to be the predictable flat pitch it normally is, and therefore giving us a boring draw, we might need to win every game to come... :-(

    Well the fight is on YouTube and it's a ****ing disgrace... This fight should be overruled to a No Contest or some **** like that. This is a ****ing joke...

    Agree 100%. It was a **** poor production complete with borderline ******ed analysts (ie. Paul Kent) and shithouse refereeing culminating in the usual ****ed carry on that sets the sport in Australia back decades. A complete embarrasment!

    I thought it was quite a good production. Everything was done quite proffessionally (filming, sound, light show, etc.) so I don't know what you were expecting for the first show? ****ing HBO?

    And the reason the commentators weren't calling it as it was, was because they were trying not to pump up the situation. You think they are going to call something they were involved in and that their bosses organised and produced a 'farce'? Come on..

    I generally agree with what the thread starter is saying, but publicly announcing it doesn't help Oz boxing. We've already got a thread in the Oz forum, so come express yourself there. Oz boxing events rarely end like this, it was a real shame it had to be on such an exciting night for us (Free To Air debut) but these types of posts aren't helping.
