Another bit of news I heard yesterday was that Brock Jarvis has signed a long-term multi-fight deal with Dean Lonergan's D&L Events. It was reported as being a 3-year 15-fight deal with all fights having to be on television. That seems extraordinarily generous but great news for Brock if right. I'd like to see him in with that kid from Wollongong we saw a few weeks ago, Sam Goodman.

I'm hoping to see Junior Tszyu in with an international opponent who is genuinely top 50 in the world next. Perhaps someone who is also in the IBF's top 15. They're in a really good position with him now that he has reached the level he has. They could do several international opponents in a row before taking a fight with Horn depending on his progress. I'd like to see him start making heads hit the canvas in his next couple. That's the only reservation I have on his progress so far.

I'd like to see Cesar Mateo Tapia matched with all the best Super Middles in the country (and New Zealand). There's a real path to the top there for him by doing that. Maybe a fight with Rocky Jerkic next up. Then you've got that Kiwi & the likes of Jade Mitchell, Bilal Akkawy, Zac Dunn & Rohan Murdock. Maybe match a few of those guys with that bloke from Kazakhstan (if any of our blokes are up for it).

The World Amateur championships will be worth keeping an eye on. I can smell an Olympic games medal next year & the worlds will be the best indicator of what our chances are like. Our blokes don't need to medal but it's important that they get the experience of facing the best in the world & hopefully notching up some wins. Presumably the Kiwi David Nyika will be going so we'll keep an eye on him also.

So J-dogg will Murray and Huni duke it out for the spot??

I know there is a lot of deserved hype about Justis but Jackson has been impressive himself. For a relative novice compared to some of the other super heavies he has a great job to get in the top few in the country. Supposedly he must pack a bit of a punch because he has broken facial bones of his opponents.

Dennis Hogan is in the frame to be Junior Tszyu's next opponent. I love that fight for both guys.

Hogan has a good profile in Australia which would bring a lot of credibility to the promotion. The fact that he clearly beat a reigning world champion last start makes it an easy sell.

The fight builds on & complements Junior Tszyu's last couple of starts & adds an international twist. It would do good PPV business domestically.

I like the fight for Junior Tszyu b/c it's a massive challenge against a top class opponent who isn't a big puncher.

I like the fight for Dennis Hogan b/c he deserves a high-profile well-paying fight after beating Mexican Mungo's arse in Mexico.

The other guys mentioned as possible opponents for Junior Tszyu next up are the German Jama Saidi (holds an IBF top 15 & boxrec top 50 ranking) & Kell Brook. Can't really see Brook taking the gig so that narrows it down.

    Great post from Juppity.

Spoiler alert - Justis Huni looked terrific. He's one of the top 10 fighters in the country even though he's still an amateur.

Very fast hands, good power, physically strong & compact. That's our Olympic games medal right there. Harry Garside, the Commonwealth games gold medalist from 2018, is the other one to keep an eye on.

It won't be easy to qualify for the Olympics mind you. Some of the best amateur Super Heavies in the world will compete at the Asia & Oceania qualifying tournament. The bloke from Kazakhstan is no.2 in the world. You don't want to draw him in the early rounds of the competition. The guy from Uzbekistan is no slouch either. Given you will need to make the semi-finals of the tournament to qualify, there's not much margin for error.

Very scrappy amateur fight between Junior Tszyu & Daniel Lewis. More hits behind the head & holding & hitting than you will see in most professional contests.

I thought Junior Tszyu landed some nice punches from the outside in round 2. Lewis imposed himself physically in round 3.

The amateur fights between Junior Tszyu & Daniel Lewis took place around 2011 when they were both very young. You also need to factor in that Lewis is eleven months older than Junior Tszyu. Anyone who has played under age sport at a competitive level can appreciate the difference that can make.

Probably more significant than their amateur fights are the fights Lewis had as an amateur post his three contests with Junior Tszyu. The experience of going to Olympic & Commonwealth games & even just the process of qualifying for those tournaments was extensive.

Daniel is going to have to make his own way as a professional which will involve building a following that can generate the money & interest needed to supply opponents who can progress his career. That's why you need television coverage. The Wade Ryan fight was a good start but he needs to build on that in the months ahead.

It's potentially a long & winding road ahead but hopefully we see him fast-tracked. The development strategy for him needs to be a bit more sophisticated than just calling for fights with Junior Tszyu.

a deal that could result in Hornet fighting WBA Champ Ryota Murota in Japan

    * Looks like the Aug 31 undercard is lacklustre. Joe Goodall will be fighting a
rematch with Christian Tsoye who lost on pts to CW Floyd Masson last month .
Issac Hardman fighting Michael Whitelaw who fought for the Aust LHW Title
in June and was stopped by the President . And promising Stretton Gym WW
Andrew Hunting against an opponent making his debut.
    * Billel Dib WBA no 7 at SFW has new opponent Tweed Heads Sept 14 after
his opponent a world rated South African withdrew for unknown reasons and
    new opponent Filipino Carlo Magali.
    * Luke Jackson signed a 3 fight deal with Corporate Fighter. The first at
Star Sept 28. Then another on either late Nov or early Dec.

Jeff Horn should face Parr in Muay Thai next. He might do well based on the extensive knowledge of it that he's showcased in his boxing career.
