The Junior Tszyu promotion has a loaded undercard. Some really good fights on that one. If Andrew Moloney's interim world title shot is no longer on the Paul Gallen v Big Bad Barry show, that's a PPV I won't be buying. I don't have a problem with footballer fights bringing in casuals who then get to see a top class boxing match of consequence. That's how new fans to our sport can potentially get brought in. Take away the fight of consequence & you're left with a freak show that I'm not interested in.
* Foxtel International Fights to be shown Nov. * Katie Taylor vs Christina Linardatou this Sun 3 / 11 from 8.30 am Fox 505. * Canelo vs Kovalev this Sun 3/ 11 from midday PPV Fox 504. * Inoue vs Donaire Thurs 7 /11 from 9.00 pm Fox 506. * Callum Smith vs John Ryder Sun Morning 24/ 11. * Wilder vs Oritz rematch from Sun midday PPV 24 / 11. * Subject to change . * Great job by Matt Rose and he would be now Aust no 1 promoter. Instead of like Mundine and Green PPV taking all the spoils he stacks his card with quality fights. * Isaac Hardman who has impressed as LHW with his 1st ko has moved to MW. * Leti Leti last fight won a MD over previous unbeaten Mark Kassab. Even though the footballer PPV is on the nose, a couple of 'free' Foxtel shows might save the day. Jai Opetaia's show on 16 Nov (the day after the footballer PPV) has him against Mark Flanagan as the main, with Liam Wilson & Sam Goodman competitively matched on the undercard. I reckon Liam Wilson can win a world title while Sam Goodman would be a high quality opponent for Brock Jarvis. A fight between those two would determine who our best young Junior Feather is. The Jayde Mitchell 'free' Foxtel show on 23 Nov also features a very good main event. That Ukrainian/Russian opponent is a former world champ who has never been stopped inside the distance. Who says our Super Middles won't take tough fights? Bit of a shame that Brock Jarvis & Conor Wallace are no longer on the undercard but that appears to be more bad luck than bad planning. A decent main plus a couple of decent undercard fights featuring guys who are among the top 25 fighters in the country should be the minimum standard for a televised show.
Interesting that ESPN in the US is taking the Junior Tszyu promotion. Not sure how many fights they're featuring off it but they're all good. That comes after Junior Tszyu's promoter in Australia apparently met with Bob Arum while Junior Tszyu was in America training recently. It wouldn't surprise if/when Junior Tszyu fights in America, it's under the Top Rank banner notwithstanding the fact that he didn't formally sign with them earlier in the year. Chairman Bob might be 88-years old (or thereabouts) but he has both Moloney brothers plus Daniel Lewis under contract. He also appears to have first dibs on Horndog & Junior Tszyu shows even if neither is currently under contract. He likely would have signed Michael Zerafa if he was at liberty to take the world title shot in Japan. That's more than half the top 10 fighters in Australia. For an old guy, Chairman Bob does a good job of keeping his finger on the pulse. Including in far-away places like Australia that no-one else would take an interest in.
* The Maloney twins were on the Alan Jones show today. Andrew is still fighting for world title but i suspect there will be a new opponent over the previous WBA no 6 D' Harry . Barry Hall is training with the twins. * Daniel Lewis will having Johnny Lewis in his corner for his USA debut this weekend. This content is protected * The Prodigy WBO no 2 and IBF no 3 at 140 lbs. This content is protected * The Dark Destroyer fight with the Scorpion off after DDP sufferred a shoulder injury. * Lucas Browne fight pushed back to Dec 20. * Jayde Mitchell is now negotiating with Zac Dunn camp for a Feb date. It will be the biggest all Vict clash since the Ellis vs Michael fight in the mid 80's. Jayde has been sparring at Stretton Gym and has campared Dennis Hogan in awkwardness to a prime Sam Soliman and said 6' 1 WW Ben Mahoney gave him the most trouble. Mahoney fights on worlds collide and is a former Muay Thai fighter.
So the Zerafa Horn rematch is official for December 18th in Brisbane. Zerafa better knock him out again so we don't see any funny business on the score cards. Hopefully team Zerafa have a say in the officials, referee and judges.
leapai should call out browne and see if he'll man up or not. i think alex wins by ko. i just don't see lucas avoiding those big bombs he throws.
Zef lord going to give Horn weekend detention levels of punishment. Expell him from the Australian boxing conversation.
