Totally agree with this, regardless if this is technically allowable, for Horn to be the one to push for 10 rounds is bizarre given his experience level and aspirations to push for a world title. Even more disappointing is his attitude and reasoning for the 10 round fight - from his interview with 2GB "Why push myself too hard when it could only be a 10-round fight and I could get ready for it a lot easier"
Techinacally allowable WTF? Sure occasionally you might find a few non title fights might be over 12 rounds but a big majority of these fights involving former champs are 10 rounds and even less. A simple search of boxrec gives you endless examples every week of former champs fighting 6 or 8 rounds even, eg former champ Moises Flores is fighting a big fight over 8 rounds in next couple days.
Oh yes Flores v Baez at super bantam weight is a huge fight over 8 rounds the boxing world is on edge awaiting this epic battle that is going down at the huge venue of the Fantasy Springs Casino in Indio California.
You think the boxibg worlds on edge for Horn v Tszyu outside Australia LOL? Not that youwould know obviously but there is heaps of examples as I said. Horn v Tszyu is a former world champ against an unproven young talent who happens to be the son of a former HOFer otherwise this fight would be just another standard crossroads fight
I can't blame you or anybody wanting the fight to be 12 rounds,1 of the reasons I wanted them to wait 12 months or whatever so the fight would be bigger and be for a meaningful title and or world title eliminator over 12 rounds. Its not unusual at all for a small regional title fight to be 10 rounds tho
No but it is the biggest fight in Aussie boxing between two Aussie fighters and it will be on PPV at a large venue with a big crowd. Say what you want about Tszyu Jnr the fact is he does have the name and he is popular the same way Anthony Mundine was because of his name early in his career. So it is not just a standard cross roads fight. But that was a great example you gave us with Flores v Baez LOL
yes, it happens all the time in non-title fights as you have pointed out. I just don't like it in a fight they are trying to promote as one of the biggest fights in Australian boxing this year. I don't like it and I think its weird that Horn wants it so bad that it became a sticking point to be negotiated given his experience and aspirations. You seem to be ok with it and that's your opinion, mine is that it is weird and I don't like it particularly as one of his stated reasons is that he doesn't want to push himself too hard in getting ready for this fight
The fact that he said that shows what a self righteous jerk he is. The guy has won awards like Australian athlete of the year and QLD athlete of the year (which I thought was a joke in the first place) and he has an attitude like this. What sort of example does that set. If other athletes said things like that they would be crucified by media outlets.
It was the next fight on the schedule in couple days which is the reason it was used as an example. Like I said every single week there is fights like this or bigger that are only over 10 rounds and Tszyu has done NOTHING and beaten nobody to warrant or demand the fight being more then 10 rounds and if the they waited 12 months the fight could have been bigger and had bigger implications for the winner, that this fight does not.
Who are you to say what Tszyu has done to warrant anything? Is Horn a current world champion? Does Tszyu need to be the number one contender to fight Horn? Tszyu is rated in the top 15 with more than one governing body. If they waited 12 months they run the risk of Horn getting KO'd again.
r u crazy? why r u having a debate with a complete hating troll? have u not figured out yet that its a waste of time trying to reason with this idiot? honestly don't know why u put yourself through it.
No despite what you have tried saying Horn had other big money offers and probably still will win or lose this fight, while Tszyu had no legitimate big fight offers of money anywhere close to what he will make against Horn. While Tszyus team postured and tried putting a time limit to Horns team on the offer he clearly needed this fight to get himself better offers for big fights in and outside of Australia. I can see Tszyu having a more succesful career then Horn who has done well to overachieve and have the success he has despite his limitations and he is still dangerous enough to beat Tszyu who hasn't faced anybody close to as good as Horn.
He blew his shot at Murata when he got his ass kicked by Zerafa in what was supposed to be a tune up bout. So what other big offers did he receive? He said himself he wouldn't fight at middleweight again so what big offers are at 154 that would pay him more than Tszyu? Did he get offered a fight with Charlo? Please tell us oh wise one who has inside credible sources and has been around the game for more than 20 years.
