Hey guys. Looking to get back into boxing after what must be close to 15 of not following very closely at all. Before that I was an avid watcher. I want to try to familiarise myself with the Aussie scene to start with so my question is, is there any site you recommend to stay up to date or any way to watch some cards(I remember fox sports used to have boxing on Friday nights I think but they don’t seem to anymore). Or even if you can point out some prospects from the Aussie scene that I can look into.
I don’t know of any sites that focus solely on Australian boxing but this thread is a decent start. As far as prospects go. I’m sure the lads around here can give you some names however those that immediately come to my mind are. Nathaniel May: lightening quick indigenous featherweight who has been developed slowly. 20 fights and only 22 years of age. Definitely an exciting prospect. Damien Hooper: Another indigenous lad with fantastic natural ability. The inside word is that Damien might need to knuckle down outside of the ring if he is going to make the most of his potential but I am confident this will happen as he is still only 25 years old. Tim Tszyu: Kostya Tszyu’s son is a fair bit bigger than his old man but seems to share his ability to hit hard. Tim hasn’t fought anyone of any real ability yet but he looks decent. That being said, I doubt Tim has what it takes to be world champ but he’s only 23 and has the public’s interest going for him. Jason Maloney: Jason will enter the WBSS bantamweight tournament where he has drawn the heavily favoured Emmanuel Rodriguez. It’ll be a tough ask but should he win this fight a possible matchup with Nonito Donaire awaits.
No worries thanks for that. Yeah I figured this thread might me one of the better places to keep up to date. I’ll have a bit of a look at the guys you mentioned.

Steven Sparks is fighting Irishman Gearoid Clancy for vacant Aust 140 lb Title Aug 4 in Toowomba Kris George announces retirement. This content is protected
I really liked Kris George as a fighter. Physically very strong & a good puncher. But your hands are the tools of the trade. You can't have them breaking every fight. It completely stunts momentum not only in terms of actual fights but training as well. Bad hands are what killed off Jeff Fenech's career. People forget Fenech actually retired after the Marcos Villasana fight. At the time he had won three world championships and was undefeated. The guy who returned (and who should have won a fourth world championship against Azumah Nelson) wasn't as good as the guy who retired unbeaten. I thought Kris George was well & truly in that Commonwealth title defence through five rounds despite what he & the commentators on the night said. Would have been nice to see that fight play out in full but as he said, it wasn't to be. Sorry to see him go but he obviously has all his marbles & has probably made a sensible decision in the circumstances.
Regarding Kris George retiring , sensible decision imo he's gone about as far as he is going to go and this ain't having a go as imo lesser talented blokes have won paper world titles , he went to England as the reigning commonwealth champion and looking to test himself in defence of HIS title and not just looking to cash out by selling his belt . A few who plot their career with the eventual goal of selling it overseas could take a leaf out of Kris's book imo . Fighting on with broken hands can't be much fun either as I've broken mine several times during my life and the last thing I wanted to do was punch on ...Good luck to Kris and I hope he enjoys his wife and kids if he has any ...Thanks for the fights.

Soliman trudging on seems like not such a great idea unless he's building towards a cash-out (and perhaps chance to at least put himself on the scoreboard, if still falling well short of evening up the rivalry) 4th installment w/ Choc Mundine. He oughtn't be tussling with any of the real young elites at MW.
Just seen the result for George Kambosos Jr fight on the Pacquiao undercard, but I watched the card and the undercard fight before the main event was 3 world title fights. Guessing it wasn’t televised, which sucks cause I was looking forward to watching some Aussie boxing.
George Kambosos Jr improved to 15 - 0 9 ko with a ko over Filipino Jr Magboo. George promoter Lou Di Bella has big plans for George with George to head a big card in Aug in New York.
