Haven’t seen the presser but the way he carries on always annoys me. Seems like a bully to me that can’t accept he found someone that stood up to him.
Can't say it excites me as Fury does him again let's be honest here. Probably more excited by some of the undercard fights if they are true tbh.
It's like my mates winge about the price for PPV (when most of the time I buy it or we go to a venue) but they always got extra dough for the old nosè rosè.
the undercard fighters were fired up at the weigh in. there'll be more fireworks from them tonight from the looks of it.
i know gallen shouldn't win on paper but i think if he can take hunis shots i see him beating a fatigued youngster by ko round 8. hunis reach should be problematic though you'd think. may the best man win.
I can't believe people are giving Gallen a chance haha. I'll put my hand up and admit I was wrong if he pulls it off, but I can't see anything other than an easy Huni win, however he wants to as well.
You're a hard taskmaster, @WhataRock. I've only just woken up & have someone coming over to help me plant plants. Instead I'm typing on a boxing forum. I know, this is more important. First fight - Jason Whateley looked good against Victor Oganov. No, Oganov shouldn't be allowed to fight any more but bags not being the one to tell him that. He actually looked half-decent when he let them go. Whateley is our only active 2016 Olympian. It was good seeing him on a big show & he has very sound fundamentals. They were mentioning Jai Opetaia as a possible future opponent for him. The guy I'd like to see him in with is our 2021 Olympian. Huni is going to need decent local big men as opponents in order to sell PPVs. Whateley qualifies & if he gets beaten, it doesn't matter. He will have lost to a H/W when he's really a Cruiser. But when I think of local opponents who it is worthwhile Huni stepping into a boxing ring with post the Olympics, Jason Whateley is right up there. Second fight - The commentators were saying it was probably Sam Goodman's best ever performance against Nort Beauchamp. Has anyone seen him not put in a good performance? I'd push him forwards into big fights against world class opposition & make it sink or swim. I think he's good enough to swim. Just make sure he's up against blokes his own size. Don't want to see him losing to someone two or three divisions north of him. Third fight - The Russian Kiwi, Mikhailovich did the business against the local Kiwi & made it exciting to watch. We'll see him again but they might want to keep the wins coming rather than match him with someone who's likely to beat him. Fourth fight - Performance of the night came from the Headsplitter. I know Emmanuel Carlos has been inactive but he looked like he had decent skills & an impressive record. The Headsplitter kept his when under fire & punched too hard for Carlos when he landed his own. Main event - Epic performance of Rocky Balboa proportions from Gal. Would love to have seen him go the distance but I think all the juice was out of the orange when the ref called it. If I'm being honest about Justis, I don't think he's in the form he was in at the back end of last year & it's that form that's going to be required to win an Olympic medal (of any colour, let alone the gold). A couple of 10 rounders in the space of three weeks isn't going to hurt him though (as long as he didn't pick up an injury last night). People are criticizing Huni's punching power but he did get both a knockdown (his first as a pro) & the stoppage last night. His punches were sharp enough & Gal attested to the fact that they were hurtful, even early on. I wouldn't be reaching any definitive conclusions about Huni based on last night's performance. He's a work in progress. He'll be facing live opposition in the Olympics & how that tournament plays out will probably tell us more about his future prospects as a professional than what's occurred thus far in his professional career. The good news is that he'll be going into the Olympic tournament with rounds under his belt. The not so good news is that he's going to have to find some form in the Olympic tournament to progress to the medals. And hopefully not be snookered by the draw. Getting seeded 8th for that tournament will make it tough. Hoping he gets seeded in the other half of the draw from Jalolov at the very least. That will possibly land him a fight with Kunkabayev if he's good enough to make it that far. From there, let's see how the cards fall.
Just thinking how stupid Lucas Browne looks if you compare his performance (lol) v Huni against Gallen.. Surly now he must realise that continuing on will just mean more beatings by guys who are ot any good themselves, the Gallen loss turned him into more of a joke and lets be honest, Gallen is a brawler who has a (fair) bit of heart but no boxing ability (or power).. Imagine if that was Huni V Browne last night...
Great post Sandman. This is what I was waiting to hear. The Sandman never sleeps!! I thought you might have been up earlier.
I thought that most of the fights were pretty entertaining I felt sorry for Gallen he really is tough it can't be said enough he has the heart of a lion. I enjoyed Hardman's fight he showed good punching power and the fight before was good I am glad the Russian Kiwi kid got the stoppage the way the other dude was carrying on in the build up all the way to the touching of gloves he deserved to be KO'd.
