Australian Boxing/SM Memorial thread

Two of my FAB4 appear to have dropped off the radar - Dave Toussaint with neurological issues & Super Hooper getting locked up.

That leaves Tim the Toolman & Fly Guy Jai Opetaia as the two best prospects in Australian boxing for mine.

Plenty of good development fights out there for both.

I notice the Commonwealth Cruiserweight title has been vacated so perhaps there's an opportunity for Fly Guy Jai to step up & claim it.

I have a question for my loyal followers.

Why the hell is the Joshua-Wilder unification fight not happening ? It it because Wilder is asking for more than he is realistically worth or is Joshua unsure about his ability to beat Wilder who has never looked elite imo.

Let 's hope Tim is fighting somebody decent as Tim is heading the Battle of the Goldfields next month with the opening of the new 4000 seat Bendigo Stadium. Tim has been on the road publicizing the fight. Tim has said his brother Nikita will not fight again.

I think Joshua's crew may have fluffed it, Franga.

I think they delayed the Wilder fight hoping to make it bigger without ever expecting that Wilder & Fury would get together.

Meanwhile, they've signed to fight a Russian who if he's got anything left, could upset the applecart.

 

I thought Andrew Moloney v Luis Conception was the headline act & that should be a decent fight (if it's still going ahead).

But good to see young Tszyu down in regional Victoria promoting the sport.

 

Tim the Toolman facing an Argentinian with 18 kayos from 19 wins.

Two of his losses have been in his last two starts this year.

Can't say I'm that enthused about seeing Junior Tszyu in with a knockout artist.

Not after he was dropped by Wade Ryan.

 

Cornejo ranked in the 300s, sounds about right.

 

Tim Tszyu v Bowyn Morgan would be a good fight to see where both fighters are at with their careers. Morgan needs to step up him competition and look to head over to Australia for bigger fights as he's never gonna attract any quality opposition staying in Christchurch and has nothing more to achieve over here.

 

Another Aust boxing son of former world champion trying to make his mark is Darcy Ellis a 6'1 JWW son of Lester Ellis. Darcy Ellis sparring Shadey Souied.

I saw the Australian LH title fight. The decision could have gone either way.

Very courageous effort from Carey to last the full distance with a broken eye socket.

The damage was caused by the first punch of the fight.

Makes you wonder about the medical supervision of these fights.

Sure, he went on & won but he shouldn't have been allowed to fight 10 rounds with an injury like that.

When an eye is all but closed after a round, the fight should be stopped for the fighter's well being.

 

I think the Colomban fight would be the best choice out of these currently and by this time next year he should have fought or be fighting some of those other names if he is to become a force on the world stage.

Fans like you are the problem with the sport just like the backslapping journo's an commentary teams in this country. You set the bar really low and then wonder why the Aussie fighters get their ass kicked when they get a shot on the international stage. Tim Tszyu's opposition has been pathetic that last guy took a dive an the only guy with a pulse that he did fight dropped him and he was lucky to get away with the decision.

 

Carl Frampton vs Luke Jackson will be on Fox Sports 506 this Sun morning live 4.30 am to 6.30 am. Tyson Fury is on the undercard.
Jeff Horns wins another prestigious award. Well deserved for exemplary behaviour.
