Frampton is one of my favourite fighters and I can't wait to see him crush Jackson who has been running his mouth and now his chickens will come home to roost.
Makes me sick the way Aussie boxing exploits certain Thai fighters. Basically a foregone conclusion when I see a Thai on a boxing promotion. Complete opposite when you see a Thai on an Australian Muay Thai promotion, there as hard as coffin nails and frequently favourite to win and do. Wonder which sport is thriving?
Browne and Leapai for me makes sense to clear out one at least. Neither deserve a shot at Parker IMO and for Parker to consider it shows me even less reason to be confident of him going forward. McKean vs whoever wins.
Jai Opetia at last facing a step up in competition. This content is protected Luke Jackson fight on Sunday morning on Fox 506 please check TV times ? This content is protected This content is protected
Fly Guy Jai is the other surviving member of my FAB4 along with Junior Tszyu. The trouble with stepping him up is that he has very little in terms of intermediate level fights behind him. Hopefully by "step up", they mean to an intermediate level opponent. The Commonwealth title is being vacated & there was talk a while back that his next fight would be in the UK so perhaps we can expect to see him over there fighting for that title. I think he's close to, if not our best talent so look forward to following his progress.
I think Okolie has vacated already now mate and is fighting for the British title next month , in all honesty you'll have to excuse my ignorance here as i haven't seen Jai fight yet so couldn't give an opinion how you think he would get on v the likes of Larwance , do you think he is capable of fighting at that level ...YET ?
Pretty lame effort from the Australian & Irish threads in acknowledging TJ Doheny's world title win. No TV coverage in Australia didn't help I guess. Nor did the fact that he only chooses to wave the Irish flag around. I think Australian TV passed on the fight when they heard Teddy Atlas was going to be doing commentary for it. Look forward to seeing the fight and acknowledging TJ's performance properly in due course. Another product of Australian professional boxing claims a world title. Well done, TJ.
Don't kid yourself pal. TJ is Irish and is a product of their amatuer system he was always talented and has a win over Frampton in the amatuers.
The sport is professional boxing. He's fought his whole professional career out of Australia. I am, of course, happy to respect the wishes of the fighter himself & he chooses to fight under the Irish flag so happy for him to be considered an Irish world champion rather than Australian. No question Australian boxing has played a role in his progress to professional world champion status though, however small that may be. Just watched the fight. Really good win for TJ. Thought he was clearly the sharper fighter although it was a close fight in the end. I watched the Japanese television coverage. I couldn't understand a word of it but it still made more sense than Teddy Atlas.
I know somebody on the Central Coast and the mail is Jai is the real deal and they say he is Aust next world champion .The problem is the CW division is incredibly stacked with Eastern European fighters. Jai has trouble finding sparring partner's and maybe Jai like TJ Doherty and George Kambosos Jr his future lies in the USA . ( Jai has already had training camps in USA ). Bilal Akkaway who is working as Golovokin chief sparring partner in San Diego has being getting some tips from Canelo trainer Eddie Reynoso. Bilal is hoping to make his USA debut while he is over there. Announcement hopefully coming soon. This content is protected This content is protected Latest Aus HW rankings. I think Fly Guy Jai is the real deal as well. But yes, he needs good sparring & opposition to fulfil his potential. When Usyk departs the division there will be opportunities galore so Jai needs to start positioning himself now. The other Australian based opponent that I think would be good for him (apart from Mark Flanagan) is Blake Caparello. Caparello is fighting a Kiwi cruiser next start.
If you only carry a foreign flag into the ring then the Australian public aren't going to get behind you IMO. Another reason this flew under the radar.
Solid effort from Luke Jackson I thought. He was taking a massive step up in class but gave a good account of himself. I've seen a lot of other Australian fighters take that step & not do nearly as well. He didn't win a round but almost managed to navigate the first two-thirds of the fight without being mortally wounded (until Frampton got through with that body shot). He landed some decent punches along the way (although not enough to bother Frampton). Not easy walking out in front of 25,000 & giving it your best but I thought he did. Well done, Luke. Played strong. Done fine.
Frampton too exp , hard hitting , big and strong ( looked at least a few kg heavier than Jackson ). Every punch CF landed LJ felt while the same couldn't be said of LJ. However LJ never stop trying and the corner threw in towel at right time. The same cannot be said for Aust promoters and managers. You are not preparing our fighters for the big stage and you are one of the reasons our fighters are being shown up and outclassed when fighting big time . LJ had got his world ranking by fighting for a meaningless International Title and his last fight against a Thai who in 17 fights had being ko 8 x. Other fighters guilty of this practice is Brock Jarvis , Tim Tszyu and George Kambosos Jr . Unless this changes these ( at least Kambosos Jr has made a attempt to challenge himself by moving to the USA ) Aus fighters will never fulfill their maximum potential if they follow the same path at the moment( bashing the living daylights out of some poor 35 age plus Indonesia , Thai or Filipino ) . Yes they might get the cash out fight but they will never win a serious big time fight or world belt. This content is protected
I enjoyed Luke Jackson's performance. I thought it was very gritty. I tuned in not expecting much but was pleasantly surprised by what he produced. Not enough to trouble a fighter of Frampton's capabilities but enough to do himself & the country he hails from justice, imo. I think we had a good week. We can claim a stake in TJ Doheny's world title win & Luke Jackson gave a good account of himself headlining on the world stage.
