The sad news of passing of St George and Cronulla NRL player Lance Thompson.
Lance had 3 pro fights under Anthony Mundine guidance. RIP.

 

I said last weekend after watching him fight that I thought Luke Jackson really gave it his all and did himself & us proud. That photo of him & the injuries he sustained along the way bears that out. It also confirms that the corner was right to call it when they did.

Really sad to hear about Lance Thompson. I saw his fights & remember him getting rocked badly in at least one of them. If you don't have strong punch resistance, boxing isn't the sport for you.

I saw him play rugby league as a schoolboy. I think he led one of the NSW schools sides (CHS) to a win in the final of the national schoolboy championships against what was a very strong ACT side in bitterly cold Queanbeyan. That takes me back. 1995 it must have been. He went on & played first grade later in the year. Gone way too soon.

 

World Youth Super HW Champ Justis Huni had his first fight in Aust in over a yr against Deepak Basrai who is the current Aust Super HW Champ and 4 x State Champ. Huni has his eyes on gold at 2020 Tokyo Olympic's.

DDP Promotions card for Sept 22 is starting to take shape. And to say its a disappointment is a understatement. WBO no 7 SMW Rohan Murdock is fighting Argentinian Pablo Niewa. Niewa was ko in his last fight and in fact in his last 5 fights he has been ko 2 x and stopped once. Joe Goodhall HW who is 3 - 0 3 ko is fighting a opponent making his debut Bensyn Pauga. Really two shocking mismatches.

Michael Zerafa this morning defended his WBA Oceania super welterweight title, pushing to an 8-0 (5) run since the loss to Kid Chocolate.

Is he showing improvement, or is this just a case of a small fish minding its level and returning to a small enough pond where it can look big?

To be fair mate that old Heared & McDonald island scientist guy throwing the right cross at the start of the clip was probably better schooled in the sweet science that half the cr appola that's winning these oriental / Oceana & antipodian titles & being sent to the Northern Hemisphere to fight LMAO.

 

A book that is being written about former WBC LHW Champ Jeff Harding has hit a hurdle. Fenech has told the author that he wants no part of it. Fenech has been interviewed and his accounts are considered crucial for the book to go ahead. Fenech " I've told them i don't want my interviews to be used. I've spent a lot of my life helping him out and i have not minded doing that. But i've decided to draw a line in the sand. He has been saying things about me and they got back to me. I think Jeff is a well balanced bloke but he has a chip on each of his shoulders. I have not hesitated to help him financially . I helped him auction things and when he lost his WBC ring i gave him mine until i found a replacement. I 've seen him around Marrickville and never knock him back and i think its great he has been sober for 8 - 9 yrs but i don't want any part of his book. I've done enough for him. "

Zerafa is best remembered in the USA for his frightening ko loss to the Kid. However he was 23 at the time. The fight was catchweight 163 lbs. Zerafa put on 6 lbs between the weigh in and fight night 24 hrs later . The Kid put on 19 lbs and now fights at SMW while Zerafa fights at 154 and even admits he can make 147 if he really wanted to.
Remembered what happened when Joey Gamache gave a similar weight to Artuo
Gatti ? Zerafa with his fitness , sharp skills and heart there is no reason why he can't
climb the 154 lb ratings. ( he is rated no 15 by WBA )

 

I'd like to see Michael Serafa v Tim Tszyu for the Commonwealth Light Middleweight title.

 

Good shout mate BUT will both men take such a fight for a title that ranks so low in prestige in the southern hemisphere when they can both gain an Oceana regional major body title that appears to give most direct access to a lucrative payday in the Northern Hemisphere ?
I know i sound a bit like a broken record but it's a shame to see the commonwealth title being held in such disregard when you think of all the fantastic old school tough as nails Aussie hard b astards who gave every ounce fighting for it over the decades .

 

It's a shame Jeff Fenech feels that way about my favourite Aussie fighter ever but I understand how it feels to go down a certain road with a good pal but in the end have to give up. Lets hope futher down the line things improve .
