Should be obvious to everyone? 'Celebrity fights' sell. KSI vs Paul, etc, etc, etc. Here in OZ footballers have big names and are in the class of 'celebrity'. The NRL (Rugby League) boys are often huge Polynesian boys with real horsepower. Pure crowd pleasers. Leapai was destined for the NRL till he KOd 7 blokes on the field and chased the ref all over the park..

There are actually quite a few good young Heavyweights in Australia, all under 20, on NRL lists, destined for the NRL. 2 or 3 of them will take up boxing over RL at some point. Personally, id build their profile playing NRL first , have a few fights to get a following then go full time boxing. Alex Leapais son(s) are in that category. Some here may know some others?

Ive no doubt the NRL has a dozen potential world class heavyweights running around in Rugby League competitions all over the country, but have yet to pull on a glove. Most never will. But the talent IS there. These cards are a good way of getting some of the better known ones in there.

Australians like seeing footballers punch on. Not rolling around on the ground grabbing their ankles after they've barely been clipped.

And it's mostly rugby league players who do it, not rugby union or Australian rules or soccer playing shirt lifters. Much tougher sport.

Overall not a bad card last night you can tell Gal has certainly lost a step 2 years ago he would've got Hodgo outta there. I thought Wade Ryan did enough but it was a good fight it should set up a trilogy hopefully at least a 10 rounder next time. I have to admit I fell asleep 5 rounds in to the Zerafa fight.

Thought Michael Zerafa needed to get some rounds under his belt last night, particularly against a guy with good hand speed & a decent skill set. The fight may not have been entertaining, but getting those rounds under his belt will sharpen him up for next time out. Wasn't surprised it went 10.

Remiss not to mention Gal's boxing career. He was a contributor to the sport, not a taker, imo. Sure, he got very well paid but he always made sure plenty of genuine boxing talent was given an opportunity to shine on his shows. He took tough fights he wasn't expected to win & was also willing to let other guys fight the main event on his own shows - including Michael Zerafa last night & Andrew Moloney on the Barry Hall show in Melbourne. In summary, played strong, done fine.

The Italian was a spoiler with a negative style so it wasn't really Zerafa's fault that it was a stinker. When guys come to fight like Horn and Hardman, Zerafa shines more in fights like that.

You spent the $80 on meth and a six pack of bourbon and coke.

Signs are there that another RL player is going broke once the RL money stops coming in..

Boxing news: Latrell Mitchell bets $6K World Cup bonus on Justin Hodges to KO Paul Gallen
Latrell Mitchell landed back in Australia after his World Cup triumph $6000 richer, but instead of original plans to spend it on a cow for his farm, the gloves are off for another daring deed.

Sorry to hear Charles Conwell was badly cut in his fight on the weekend. That will presumably rule him out of sparring with Timmy in the lead up to Charlo. Big blow to Timmy's chances if that's the case. They needed a real live guy with a hard edge to do decent rounds with Tim to compensate for him not having fought since March this year. Conwell was that guy.
