I have now watched the full fight Yarde did well I still don't think he won more than 2 rounds but he came to fight. Beterbiev is just a relentless war machine but with good boxing skills as well. If No Limit think that Aokuso is the real deal they should make Yarde an offer.

Justis Huni won't be renewing his promotional contract with Dean Lonergan. Apparently Fast Eddie Hearn is ready to make a splash & is the front runner to sign him. I guess I'll be renewing my DAZN subscription if that happens. No Limit are still in play so it's a two-horse race for his signature.

If Justis is signing with Matchroom and an announcement being made soon, I wonder how far behind Jai will be, as they're both managed by Tasman Fighters.

 

The real issue here is that Foxtel / Main Event are cutting back on their boxing expenditure. They aren't willing to invest in the likes of Justis Huni & Jai Opetaia. That's b/c their shows have cost them money that they haven't got back. And weren't likely to any time soon.

The only Justis Huni fight that would have generated money for Foxtel / Main Event was Paul Gallen & that's b/c Gallen brought in heaps of casuals.

The only fighter in the country who actually generates money & is profitable is Tim Tszyu. That's potentially a big problem for the sport in this country if he gets beaten.

We've got tremendous talent across all weight divisions but commercial media interests won't fund that talent unless there's money in it for them.

If ME/Foxtel lost money on the shows with Justis and Jai and really only made money from the likes of Paul Gallen and Tim Tszyu, it would be interesting to see that the other No Limit shows did that didnt feature either of those two.

And totally agree with you about the talent here in Australian boxing at the moment.

 

I know a lot of people on here don't like Dean Lonergan, but his track record in developing fighters is pretty good. He took Joseph Parker through undefeated to the WBO H/W title, Horndog through to the WBO Welter title & has taken Jai Opetaia through undefeated to the IBF Cruiser title. He also matched Justis Huni very competitively through 7 fights. He only lost Huni b/c Foxtel / Main Event have pulled the rug out.

 

I don't know what foxtel's problem is in recent years they were happy to run **** shows like the old Jeff Fenech fight nights and Jamie Myer fight nights a lot of these cards were terrible mismatches back in the day. None of them were big name fighters like Mundine and Green but they still got a run on the tele. Now we have actual talent like Huni, Opetaia even Kambosos and they all struggle to get on TV now. Even when Kambosos fought Lopez you had to have DAZN to watch it. They need to bring back the old school big time boxing set up.
