I think Django will stop him. Kris T was in serious trouble against old Gal for a minute.

Nice to have the commonwealth title down in this part of the world for a change instead of it just being handed to a British prospect after he beats a complete unknown with a padded record.

Big weekend for Kiwi boxing fans. It might be time for them to dust the cobwebs off the New Zealand Boxing Bling Box & get ready to open the lid. Or not. Come to think of it, I'm not even sure there is a New Zealand Boxing Bling Box. In recent times, they've just been staring wide-eyed at ours. They've even been objecting to our lady boxers flashing the bling which is quite ridiculous given one of them is part Kiwi.

What's really needed is for the Kiwis to step up & claim some bling of their own. Then they won't be quite so inclined to moan about results on The Boxing Scoreboard, the amount of bling in the Australian Boxing Bling Box or the fact that Demsey McKean is under consideration as an opponent for AJ. As to the latter, the Kiwi fans may have to swallow a massive dose of Karma if McKean fights Joseph Parker. And when I say massive, I mean a swimming pool full of it. Imagine if their top H/W lost to a guy they have stamped their feet & insisted isn't fit to share the same ring as AJ. Kiwi boxing fans played a significant role in McKean being denied the opportunity of a lifetime. He was the front-runner for the fight until they let loose. Payback's a you-know-what.

Back to this weekend, I hope the Kiwis don't let this part of the world down when they step up onto the international stage. That they don't get stage fright when the bright lights shine & all their feathers fall off. Or if Okolie lands a big one. They shouldn't. I'm expecting a strong performance from Light who has defied expectations with his last couple of performances & has a well credentialed amateur & sparring record in addition to his professional wins. You'd think a bloke who calls himself 'Great White' would be able to handle an Octopus like Okolie, that's for sure. Good luck to the Kiwis & hopefully we see a unification fight between Jai Opetaia & David Light later on this year. That's one I genuinely would like to see on The Boxing Scoreboard.

Just back from Dubai. Proud as **** of the performances of both Dana Coolwell and Big Daddy. Coolwell has a huge future in front of him IMO. Both fights are on YouTube for anyone interested.

Just noticed Teremoana Jr is back fighting in the amateurs & has been to a couple of world rated tournaments lately. He's already knocked up fights with several of the top amateur Super Heavies in the world & is holding his own. Hopefully he sticks with it through until the Paris Olympics. He's a phenomenal talent who with experience against the top amateur Super Heavies in the world could really go places after (& during) the Olympics. Well done to the people who have arranged that for him. Very exciting to see someone with his ability in our amateur program. His first fight against international competition is below.

The tournament in Bulgaria was interesting. Jalolov is back fighting amateur (what's going on there?) in the Super Heavy division. He won the tournament with three consecutive walk over results after his scheduled opponents refused to come out of the dressing room against him. One of those was the Kazakh Kunkabeyev who is also back campaigning in the amateurs. Presumably all of these guys are intending to go to the Paris Olympics. Great experience for Teremoana Jr if he's good enough to land a fight with one or more of them. I reckon at the very least he will have the calzones to come out of the dressing room.

    That's very interesting.

I think he gets better experience at these kind of tournaments, better then blowing out Queensland coal miners for a couple of more years.

He had very few amateur fights, so he’s gone back to the singlets for that experience. I think it’ll improve him plenty.

That card deserved a better crowd ippy. I saw some footage from ringside and there was like 40 people there

    Great effort from both lads.

There was definitely less than 1000 there. But the promoter is new, a Russian multi millionaire and everyone was paid. I suspect he will get better as he goes. Had the money to bring over Mayweather, Tarver, RJJ and Chino Maidana, so obviously not short of a quid.

There was probably more over there in Dubai than for Floyd Mayweather's recent exhibition bout in the UK.
And speaking in Floyd, I was reading that he looking at doing an exhibition bout in Australia later in the year.

Our man in Houston, Small Charlo, has been mumbling about fighting Timmy in July or August or 'whenever'. He's not back hitting bags yet so the fight may occur later on in the year. That being the case, Tim should aim to get another fight in mid-year. Preferably June which would provide good coverage for any fight that occurs in the second half of the year. Against a live opponent as well. In fact, I'd go further & say the best opponent they can get. Why mark time when you can improve? Good opponents for him would be Bakhram Murtazaliev, the IBF mandatory, who was offered a fight with Tim but knocked it back before Tony Harrison accepted. He's big & strong & plenty tough. He's similar dimensions to Charlo so would be good in that regard. He may have had a change of heart since last time when he would have been coming off a short turnaround. A second option would be Charles Conwell who was out here with Tony Harrison. He has already said that he wants to fight Tim next but of course there have been a few who have said that who then get cold feet when the offer comes. The fact that he knows how things work out here would remove a lot of the trepidation about coming out here that other fighters may have. A third option would be Brian Castano who must be about ready to resume. Fighting another one of Charlo's best wins who fought to a draw with him would make things easy from a marketing perspective. He's also a two-time world champ at the weight. Charlo's hold on the belts loosens significantly if Timmy gets another one in against a good opponent before they meet.

Unless it’s in my backyard, I won’t be looking at it.

You reckon there are any fights in Australia left for Big Daddy? Or a few more in Dubai?

Given their monopoly on local TV rights I would have liked to see a bit more on the horizon for No Limit. Give us something to look forward to.
