    i was almost right.
de mori should have gotten a standing 8 count after the touching of gloves, lol.
he was unsteady on his feet after that.

Wilder took too much valium before his bout. He just didn't care to be there by the looks of it.

Hope they announce the ****en Tszyu fight soon. Then again not sure I really care.

Lubin fiasco will be just that. A fiasco. He'll get decimated within 6 rounds. Mauled.

THE BOXING SCOREBOARD - FINAL RESULT FOR 2023 - AUSTRALIA 45, THE WORLD 17

In my time as a boxing fan, I don't think I've ever seen a year this good for Australian boxing. We finish the year with three world champions in men's boxing, Jai Opetaia, King Timmy & Jason Moloney with Skye Nicholson holding an interim world title in the women's. We have high quality fighters in every weight division of the sport from Minimumweight to Heavyweight. We also qualified 12 fighters out of 13 divisions in the Olympics so there's plenty more good talent on its way to the professional ranks. Doubtful we've ever had a positive balance sheet against American fighters but without counting, we have this year & by a big margin. Things to look forward to next year? I've only ever seen us win a couple of Olympic medals which tells you how hard they are to get. And both of those were in Asian Olympics. Hoping to see at least another one next year. We'll need some luck with the draw & the close decisions. In the pro ranks, I think we've got two of the best fighters in the sport in King Timmy & Jai Opetaia. Long may they reign. I'm also looking forward to us staking a claim in the Heavyweight division either through Justis Huni or Jai Opetaia moving up. Olympic gold & the Lineal H/W Championship of the World are the ultimate prizes for Australian boxing. Hoping to see us make progress towards both next year.

    Final results:

Is it any wonder that Showtime & HBO have pulled out of the sport of professional boxing in America? The numbers don't lie.

We might need a high-level Heavyweight matchup next year to settle beef with New Zealand.

Was reading over on another thread that maybe Justis Huni is another possibility for the March 9 card in Saudi.

I was getting the impression this place had matured beyond that. Little wonder another Aussie forum isn't even under consideration.

    Sandman's Australian Boxing Awards 2023

I only do the big awards - Fighter of the Year, Fight of the Year & Event of the Year. I'll leave it to less prestigious publications to dispense awards in other categories.

Australian Boxing Fighter of the Year
: King Timmy - First of his name, breaker of glass, kicker of arse. Four big wins:
TKO9 Tony Harrison (Wins Interim WBO Jr. Middleweight title)
KO1 Carlos Ocampo (Retains Interim WBO Jr. Middleweight title)
WO (Walkover) Jermell Charlo (Wins WBO Jr. Middleweight title)
UD12 Brian Mendoza (Retains WBO Jr. Middleweight title)

Runner up: Sam Goodman. Also four big wins to position himself for a shot at boxing's P4P #1:
UD10 TJ Doheny (a particularly good win in light of results Doheny would return later in the year)
    SD12 Ra'eese Aleem
    UD12 Miguel Flores
    UD12 Zhung Liu

2nd runner up: Alex Winwood (three big wins to put himself in position to beat Jeff Fenech's record of winning a world title in the least number of pro fights):
    KO4 Tibo Monabesa
    UD10 Reyneris Gutierrez
    UD10 Cris Ganoza

Honourable mentions: Jason Moloney & Jai Opetaia who won & successfully defended world titles respectively during the course of the year.

Australian Boxing Fight of the Year
: Floyd Masson UD12 Fabio Turchi - Both guys sent to hospital afterwards. Ironically, this one was televised on Foxtel via the Bein Sports Network. The promotion on the night though was a little bit too good which resulted in them being booted off Bein Sports as a consequence of the No Limit monopoly agreement.

    Runner up
: Kiki Toa Leutele SD8 Toese Vousiutu - Good learning fight for Vousiutu who will be all the better for having been in it.

The best two Australian fights of the year won by Kiwis? Hmmm. Might need to look into that.

One more award - Event of the Year. For a long while, I would have said it was the Tim Tszyu v Tony Harrison fight earlier in the year. I think that one had a good buzz about it. Largely thanks to Tony Harrison having never seen a television camera he didn't like. But I've made that runner up. Event of the Year for me was the Australian amateur boxing team at the Pacific Games in the Solomon Islands qualifying 12 out of 13 fighters for the Olympics. When you consider the Kiwis sent a full compliment of 13 fighters to that tournament & didn't qualify anyone, it goes to show what a terrific achievement that was for Australian boxing.

my prediction of Willis Meehan being world champion last year would have been correct if Usyk didn't dodge him, lol.
He wanted no part of Australia's best fighter.
this year he'll get it i'm sure.
