The boxing landscape in this country is interesting & unique. The biggest plus is the amount of genuine talent. Another plus (I think) is the new players who want to get involved (7-plus - pardon the pun - a streaming platform provided by Channel 7) & Stan (a streaming platform provided by Channel Nein). There's also DAZN (another streaming platform) who are affiliated with Tasman Fighters (who have some of the best talent in the country) & of course No Limit (who have the most talent & also it would seem, the most profitable talent in terms of generating money (the Tszyu name sells)). We've also got cameo appearances from international promoters (DiBella Entertainment, Top Rank & Matchroom) although it would seem big government money needs to be on the table in order for those shows to go ahead. A negative is that unless you have a Tszyu in your lineup, it's very difficult to turn a profit putting on domestic shows. And if you can't make money with a domestic show, it will restrict the quality of opponent that can be obtained for the wealth of talent that we currently have. When some of those Olympians turn pro later this year, you can't just take them over to Saudi to collect a pay cheque. They need to be developed. The same goes for the likes of David Nyika (although he has got a start in Saudi) & Alex Leapai Jr. Developing that talent will need to be subsidized by other earners in the stable or the broadcasters &/or promoters will need to absorb the costs of doing so. That's where things could fall down. Developing fighters on a shoestring budget is an art form & can be done but it's unlikely to work in the Heavyweight division which is where I see the greatest potential for the sport in this country. No Limit, the current domestic front-runner in terms of promotions, don't have as much talent on the books in the Heavyweight division as some of the other players although they appear to be making efforts to bolster their stocks in that department in recent times. The mantra for Australian boxing over the next decade or so will be "go big or go home". That mantra also embraces the other profitable element of Australian boxing which is footballer fights. A necessary part of the tapestry in terms of attracting mainstream sports fans to boxing.

I saw that Top Rank were using Mundine in their promo video for Loma Kambosos to big up George.

Don't think we'll get our forum back but this thread is going gangbusters. It's widely read & has significantly raised the profile of Australian boxing on the world stage. We were doing well a while back to be averaging around 100,000 views a year but are currently well in excess of that. We're doing about 20,000 views a month currently & are well on our way to breaking the million views barrier. The next major milestone will be averaging 2000 posts a year. Don't be surprised if we're close to that figure this time next year.

This thread is a belter. In some ways having one big rolling thread is possibly better than our own forum I think.

Some Kiwi fans are mournfully calling for Aussie Dave Nyika to return home. Don't know why. Up there in Queensland there's a plethora of world class & budding world class big men for him to spar with. A key factor in developing a world class fighter is having world class opposition available for them to spar with. Iron sharpens iron. And there's nothing sharper on the world scene these days than Australian steel.

Up there in Queensland you've got Justis Huni, Jai Opetaia, Teremoana Jr, Joe Goodall, Floyd Masson & Luke Modini. Toese Vousiutu has relocated up there as well & Alex Leapai Jr is turning pro & will likely be trained by the same guy who is looking after Aussie Dave. By my count, that's at least nine world class or budding world class big men who are perfectly happy to help each other out when it comes to sparring for upcoming fights.

There is an issue with getting Aussie Dave better quality opponents but he's on the Saudi show in May & should be an attractive option for local television when & if they are serious about featuring quality fighters. Hopefully a bit of healthy competition in the television stakes starts getting some decent matches made.

I have noticed at the press conferences that Schleibs is trying to kill independent Sam.
    World's are colliding.
