The IBF has ordered Tim Tszyu vs their current champion Bakhram Murtazaliev.

I see there's a thread on it but thought I'd mention it here.

I’m hearing a rumour that Fox Sports Australia are pulling out of domestic boxing at the end of this year. Genuinely hope this isn’t true as it would harm boxing in this country.

    oh really, wonder why?
If true, what happened to that 50 show deal with No Limit?
So, No Limit and Fox can continue to charge $60 for a Sammy Goodman ppv event?

I think the original exclusive deal between Fox and No Limit had already harmed boxing in Australia.
But maybe it worked out for the better as we now have DAZN Australia and Premier Boxing Series and none of these may have happened if both were still allowed to have their shows on Fox Sports.
Maybe 7+ will ask Premier Boxing Series to look at doing more shows??

Hey guys, any news on Kiki Toa Leutele or Toese Vousiutu - both been awfully quiet after their very decent scrap on No limit about a year ago now

The Kiwi Leutele had a stay busy fight earlier this year against Arsene Fosso. Leutele is a good opponent for anyone who needs some rounds & wants a tough fight.

I'm surprised we haven't seen Vousiutu in action so far this year. He's certainly entertaining to watch. He would be hard to match I reckon b/c he's far too good to be fighting lower-level guys & poses a legitimate threat to better credentialed fighters. His physical strength, punching power & toughness are formidable. Maybe the winner of the upcoming stoush between Brandon Grach & Jackson Murray might be willing to take him on?

So far the team has equalled the best ever performance by an Australian boxing team at an Olympics by locking in two bronze. Our team in 1960 also won two bronze. It took Cassius Clay to keep us out of a final that year.

If the current Olympic team wants to officially beat the previous mark, one of these two needs to upgrade the colour of their medal by winning tomorrow morning.

Unofficially, I think the team has already beaten the previous mark. The performances of Teremoana & Callum Peters, despite not delivering medals, were top class against reigning world champions from Uzbekistan & Kazakhstan respectively. Both could have been awarded wins in those fights.

Here's hoping Charlie squares the ledger with Uzbekistan tomorrow & Caitlin goes through the Chinese like a bad dose of beef & black bean.

'Spike' Cheney is our only boxer who has ever done better than bronze. Winning a silver medal in Seoul, back in 1988.

    IT'S TIME!

I didn't make it in time to see Charlie but sounds like he put in a great losing effort.

In all fairness Caitlin probably did lose to the vaunted Chinese fighter but the Canadian judge who scored the last round 10-8 against Parker needs to be investigated and never allowed near a boxing ring again.

Absolutely no justification for this score. There was no knock down or count put on Caitlin, no point deduction. Parker probably outworked Li in the last stanza but I won't argue if people saw her cleaner work giving her the edge.

There are only 2 explanations for this, it's either corruption or incompetence. The IOC owes Parker a please explain. The Bulgarian-Cubano was robbed blind in the previous fight by the sounds of it aswell.

Charlie gave it a good go against a very good opponent. It would be surprising if the Uzbek doesn't go on & take the gold from here. Charlie did land punches on him & now knows where the level is at the top (if he didn't already).

Caitlin is a case of what could have been. Her first round was a continuation of her form from the previous fight - she boxed her opponent's ears off. It went pear shaped from there as the fight became messy. Disappointed Caitlin couldn't pick up one of the last two rounds to finish in front. Perhaps the physical strength of the Chinese took its toll as the fight wore on. It was certainly a winnable fight for her which makes the result disappointing. The girl who qualified for the final through the other semi-final is someone she's beaten before. On the scoring of the last round, I've read the rulebook for this tournament & a clear round one way or the other is supposed to be scored 10-8. I didn't think the last round was quite that clear but all that really mattered was which way it went.

Two medals equals our best effort at an Olympics but the bottom line out of this Olympics for us is what could have been. Our two best men received horrendous draws to the point where they would have been better off going in unseeded. On top of that, their fights were scored very harshly including by officials who were more interested in where the fighters came from than they were in the action in front of them.

A learning for us is that if you want to win big fights at big tournaments like this, you have to bring it home hard in the last round. And by 'hard', I mean really hard.

Tournament highlights from an Australian perspective:

Bronze medals for Charlie & Caitlin.
Teremoana's first round job on the Ukrainian.
Teremoana's first two rounds against the Big Uzbek.
Callum's last two rounds against the Wild Kazakh.
