7Plus on the job again this Saturday night with : Dan Hill 6-1 vs Lewis Chadwick 5-1 Jack Bowen 9-1 vs Gi Sung Gwak 5-2
Was hoping we had seen the last of that annoying idiot “Lieutenant” Dan Hennessey after his embarrassing stuff up in that women's match. No so, it seems.
Big story breaking regarding Teremoana's professional boxing future. Apparently he has signed a promotional deal with Fast Eddie Hearn with the intention of basing himself in the UK (in much the same way Skye Nicolson has done). Only problem is the Tasman Fighters group also has a promotional agreement in place with Teremoana & are asserting that it remains on foot despite questions as to whether the terms of that agreement have been satisfactorily met. This may well have wider implications for Australian boxing given Fast Eddie has also been promoting the likes of Jai Opetaia & Justis Huni overseas. It seems bizarre to me that this is heading to court when Matchroom & Tasman Fighters appeared to be working cooperatively until now. Hoping things get sorted before the year is out so Teremoana can resume his professional career. Being based in the UK would seem to be the best thing for him in terms of being able to fight regularly against an incrementally increasing standard of opposition. Caitlin Parker also rumoured to be launching a professional career in the UK.
What's become of Brock Jarvis? Left Fenech. Went up in weight. KOed early by Paro 2 years ago and only fought once since. Assume he's injured? That or he's just lost interest.
Good win by Jack Bowen. Hit him with everything but couldn't quite put his opponent away. Main event, Chadwick-Hill, up next.
Two out of three for Australia in New Zealand tonight: Aussie Dave Nyika TKO3 Tommy Karpency - Aussie Dave too big, too strong, too classy. Alex Leapai Jr KTFO2 Manusiu Fe'ao - Alex Jr has serious power. Would like to see him work hard on getting the jab out there. Django Opelu L(SD)10 Hemi Ahio - The Kiwi had the better of the second half of the fight.
Kiwi David Nyika shines in Auckland. After dodgy Aussie Blake Caparello tested positve for elevated testosterone levels, Nykia turned to Tommy Karpency to save the show. Karpency accepted. The fight itself was short and it was a surgical performance from David. Nykia eatablished his range early and settled into a rhythm which involved splendid body shots to Karpency's right side, where the poor ****s liver is. In round 3 Karpency went down for the first time off a body shot. Later that round he was hit with a temple shot on the left side from a check hook as he moved in. The towel was thrown in. That's David's 9th knockout in 10 fights and looks impressive training under Thornberry out of Gatten. I repeat, suspected drug cheat Caparello. That's Australian suspected drug cheat, Caparello was forced out of the bout due to raised testosterone levels. An Australian man. David looks forward to a deserved rest and hopefully an announcement will come soon regarding future opponents, who may be Australian and clean.
He is, Outlaw. He's a kid who was chased hard by every Rugby League club in the country (except Wests Tigers) but who has decided to follow in his father's footsteps in boxing. Those are the types our sport needs. Kids who would have made it in a mainstream sporting code but who would rather box. They need to teach him how to jab but if they do, we'll really have something. He's physically very strong, has concussive power & his chin appears solid for a young bloke b/c he's been cracked hard in the head several times by much older guys in the couple of fights I've seen. There's plenty of good sparring up there in Queensland for him & he'll also have Aussie Dave Nyika to work with. One to keep an eye on.
Hardman retires Isaac 'Headsplitter' Hardman 15-3 has announced his retirement. At only 28, I reckon Hardman will get the itch and return before too long.
