Contender series. He was crying on the show when a fighter left. That same fighter got done for something too. A whole heap of Aussie boxers have got themselves in trouble with the law.

 

Yeah they end up joining gangs and used as stand over men etc. Then they find out the hard way, boxing can't defend against bullets.

A REALITY TV contestant lashed out from sexual frustration and hit a man after being rejected from a threesome, a court heard yesterday.

Sonni Michael Angelo, a professional boxer also known as "Jungle Boy" on the TV boxing series The Contender, suffered "a brain snap" when a woman to whom he had been making advances told him to leave the bedroom where she was having sex with another man, the District Court was told.

The 27-year-old, Congo-born boxer had met the man, Amir Ibrahim, and woman, who can't be identified, on a night out in Kings Cross before the November 2009 incident.

The court heard the woman cried out "don't" when Angelo started masturbating at the end of the couple's bed, before the boxer hit Mr Ibrahim in the face.

A jury found Angelo not guilty of sexual intercourse without consent.

He was instead found guilty of committing an indecent act when he exposed himself in front of the couple.

Angelo proudly displayed a glistening Asia-Pacific title belt at his sentencing yesterday when he got a two-year, good-behaviour bond for the indecent act and assault.

There is also another incident where he was in a unit with a 48 year old woman. Police attended the unit for some reason and the woman went at them with a fork and police shot her, she survived. They were both test and were on drugs and alcohol. No charges were laid.

 

Israel Kani is the guy that got done for something. Fraud or something. I remember Sonny Michael Angelo crying when he left the show. I'm glad Garth Wood won that. I knew he would.

Thing with our earlier boxers like Hussein brothers etc, they were fed cans majority of their careers. As soon as they stepped up and guys hit them back they would freeze up. Especially Nedal, he had so much talent but was wasted with Thai cans to beat up on. He basically froze when he went against Larios for WBC title and didn't throw a punch.

 

Skinny fought Manny Pacquiao in the Philippines on the way up & did well. Ref admitted years later he intentionally delayed a count on Manny in order to give him time to recover from a knockdown. The result sent their careers in opposite directions.

I also remember Skinny's fight with Jackson Asiku. A few African fighters stayed in Australia after the Olympics & he was one of them. Sande Kizito was another. They were good fighters & high quality opponents for our best fighters on the way to the world stage. I remember Vic Darchinyan facing Sande Kizito three times early in his pro career. Vic would go on & become Undisputed professional champ. Made more appearances on premium American television than any of our fighters, including Kostya Tszyu. Should be in the Hall of Fame.

Edit - Sakio Bika was another African fighter who stayed in Australia after the Sydney Olympics. Did okay for himself.

 

Skinny fight in the Philippines was the Aussie version of Ali vs Cooper.
Update WBA #1 jnr middleweight Pavel Sosulin takes on new opponent Victor Nagbe at Sibur Arena in St Petersburg, Russia on March 12. Nagbe replaces fellow Australian Qamil Balla.

 

I mentioned Bika as well a few pages ago. I forgot about him for a while. He went 12 rounds with Calzaghe. He was a good fighter.

What's our best win in boxing history? I reckon Kambosos over Teo. The underdog factor and winning all the belts. I predicted he'd beat him tbh. It was a great achievement.

That's the single best win by an Aussie in our history imo.

 

Big fan of The Greek mate and was made up he won but i was hoping Jai was going to do a bit better and unify the cruiser but that looks like it won't happen now sadly .
