Happy Anzac Day to all. The sons & daughters of the Great Southern Lands have been flying the flags over there at the World Boxing Cup in Brazil. Remiss of me yesterday not to acknowledge Kiwi Welterweight Connor Campbell for advancing to the Quarter Finals over there. After I suggested the Kiwis shouldn't have attended this tournament their Welter advances further than ours. Not bad for a bloke whose only previous international experience was a couple of fights in Samoa. Well done to him & the Kiwis. As for the Aussies, Jye Dixon boxed very well against the seeded Japanese. He won the second round big only to have the ref deduct a point half-way through. Ended up losing a split decision but served notice that he's right up near the top of a very tall bantamweight tree. Lekeisha Pergoliti did her thing against an under-sized but determined Mexican. She won a UD. There are some new faces in the women's Junior Middle division. It will be interesting to see how she handles things from here. The Polish girl has a very fast & long jab while the American girl powered through a usually very sturdy Brit. Any win's a good win in that division from here on. Omer Izaz lost a closely contested SD at Flyweight.
@MidniteProwler he got into a little trouble at The Star lit up 3 dudes he's in lock up about to go bail him out as we speak. MVP.
A win & a loss in the semi-finals of the World Boxing Cup in Brazil overnight & this morning. Lekeisha Pergoliti boxed very well against a physically strong, relentless American to make it through to the final. Tough fight to navigate but she did it with a combination of slick movement, faster hands & good skills. She appeared very tired at the end but has one to go against the Chinese Olympic silver medalist from Paris. Win & she's the best in the world in that weight division. The other best fighters in the world in the division have all taken a tumble during this tournament. Emma Sue Greentree came up against a Norwegian who has beaten her before & was able to do so again this morning. The other girl kept the pressure on for the first two rounds & was able to coast to the finish line in the last. Emma just wasn't able to land enough to get in front in the fight. The pressure & presence of the other girl was a bit much through two. Bronze medal for Emma. Hopefully Gold tomorrow for Lekeisha.
Tszyu said that earlier this year he was going to retire. First time ever felt like that. I'm glad he's not. He gets a big pay day vs Spence at least.
Tim on the pads on YouTube. Already commenced training with Fenech. He's got no power anymore. Speeds ok but the power is gone.
Absolutely no interest in seeing Timmy fight Spence and Timmy talking it up as if its going to be "...one of the greatest victories in Australian boxing history.” How fcken delusional is he, fighting a guy who's been out of the ring for three years and thinking its going to rank up there as one of the great wins in Australian boxing. What about Lionel Rose, Johnny F, Jeff Fenech, Jeff Harding, Jeff Horn, Kostya T, George Kambosos Jr and many others?? Hope Timmy gets Bakhramed and quits on the stool......again, and finally does retire.
I have to agree with most of that. Spence is finished. He's coming out of retirement ffs after a brutal loss and car accident. Beating Spence won't mean a thing. I want him to a win but every fight now is about rewriting history and changing chapters. He said that after fundora 1 and he's been iced twice after that.
yep, agreed I think he started to buy into all the No Limit hype about himself and how he was going to conquer the US and take everyone out. Well, how'd that turn out....
