* Looks like the Bilal Akkawy vs John Ryder will be on April 24 become official as a fight for the vacant interim WBA SMW Title. This will be the main co feature for the Canelo vs Jacobs May 5.
* Jai Opetia will announce his opponent this week for May 15 PPV.
* Lucas Browne to continue. He will take a couple of weeks off and then back in training .
* DDP Deedee Hobbs 8 - 0 will fight for Super LW Title in Greece on June 7 against WBO Champ Christian Linardotou 11 - 1.
* April Adams heading to Denmark to face WBO Champ Dina Thorsland June 22.
* If they give decent odds on Bam Bam i will definitely have a bet. Justis Huni Aust best hope for Olympian medal more than holds his own with David Light who fights Bam Bam May 18. Huni black singlet.
* They removed the video the comments were getting too heated and Light was being
toyed with by Huni which is not good for PPV sales in NZ.

 

I think it's too early for Light to be taking the Flanagan fight myself as his defence worries me and it's a massive step up in class for Light. Don't get where the PPV sales comment came from though? The fight won't even be televised haha.

 

You think that some promoter in QLD could make Browne a worthwhile offer to fight the Aussie heavyweight champ McKean

 

Good fight for Akkaway to prove himself a sink or swim type fight.

 

U would think so , it be good if it happened . Browne wouldn't do it unless it was a big payday for him .

 

Yeah it would have to be a decent offer. I would still favour Browne to KO McKean. From what I have seen of Mckean he is to upright with his chin in the air and he doesn't seem to carry much power for a big guy.

 

Maybe but TBH I think he would steamroll Demsey pretty easily..

Demsey seems to be happy fighting the usual Aussie HW suspects and probs is overdue for a step up if he is going to take his career seriously..

Not sure he could do it as he seems to lack a bit of pop..

 

Agreed, I wouldn't be surprised if this completely washed version of Haumono KO's him.

 

* The Hornet after saying he wouldn't return to Nov after Bryant / Murota fights fell through is now pursuing a bout in Sept with Kell Brooks in UK .After Khan abysmal performance against Bud its unlikely the public would have interest in Brook vs Khan and vs Crawford ( too brilliant ) anymore. The Hornet says he can still make 147 lbs but his next fight will most likely be at 154 lbs or 160 lbs.
* Billy Dib retirement was short lived. He returns on Fri.
* This is a decent scrap in arguably Aust most competitive division 154 lbs. Ty Telford 5 -0 takes on former Irish Am Champ and now Aust based Danny Keating 3 - 0 on 21 June .
* Winner of the Ryder vs Akkawy will be in line for a title consolidation bout with Callum Smith who will be appearing on the June 1 Anthony Joshua MSG card.
* Aust 118 lb Champ Mark Schleibs fighting June 22 opponent TBA .
* Will be interested in the odds for Ryder vs Akkawy. The cancelled fight had David Lemiex at $ 1.40 and Ryder at $ 2.70 . I sit on the sidelines for this one and enjoy watching Akkawy become Aust newest World Champ on pts .
* Qamil Golden Boy Balla returns on May 4 against Indonesian Hero Tito. Qamil only loss as pro to Kambosos Jr and was AM rival of the Hornet beating him as a AM.

* Looks like Tim Tszyu wins the Aust JMW Title he most likely will vacate. The ANBF has the winner having to make a mandatory defense against Adrian Rodriguez by Aug 15.
* The Aust SMW vacant title fight between Joshua Jenkins vs Blake Travers must face 21 yr old Manly Mateo Tapia 10 - 0 6 ko within 90 days of their 18 May fight.
* Brent Rice will after all not move up to JWW and will fight Gaige Ireland for the Aust LW Title vacated by Liam Wilson.
* Great job by Ace Promotions and Angelo Di Carlo with one boxing show in June and two in July in QLD.
* Reminder the WBSS will be shown on Fox this Sun from 10 am AEST. Please check TV guide. However somebody on the forum has said it won't be a double header anymore with the Donaire vs Tete fight cancelled ( Tete shoulder injury ) and will only be Prograis vs Relikh JWW semi final.

 

Not sure why Australian boxing officials would take the national title off Tszyu if he wins it. Rodriguez lost his last fight & Tszyu has the best light middles in the country lined up to face him. Seems very silly although I guess some of those other fights could end up being for other titles. If the intent of the officials is to diminish the value of an Australian title, they will achieve that. Maybe they should be stripping the officials of their titles instead.

Jeff Horn should have had a fight in the first half of this year. They're messing around trying to get a big payday for him. What was really important was getting some decent rounds under his belt after he only went 96-seconds against Mundine. Working as Dennis Hogan's sparring partner has meant he hasn't been completely inactive but the fact that he hasn't actually fought is less than ideal. There's a danger that when he does land a big fight, he'll be underdone. At least he'll be "fresh" I guess.

It's time to start keeping an eye on these former Irish amateur champs. I missed the rise of TJ Doheny and have only caught the last few Dennis Hogan fights. Hogan's performance against Mexican Mungo was magnificent. I await the WBO re-score on that one.

Great opportunity for Bilal Akkawy coming up. I know nothing about his opponent. Bilal is big & strong & hits hard enough to do something. His defence is suspect but his chin looks good so we'll see. Working with Canelo's team won't have done him any harm & might be about to pay off.

 

The WBA is a joke with there 3-4 different "world champions" in each division but still a nice opportunity for Akkaway in a very winnable big fight on a big card
