    How and why is Mahoney pronounced "Marney"? I'm struggling with it.

    I've heard it pronounced both ways. I used to just hear Marney decades ago. I agree with you, it's Mahoney.

    I thought Marney was the original Irish pronunciation and Marhoaney is American butchering?

    Correct. Similar to the way we murder “Doherty” when it’s correctly pronounced
    “Doh-her-tee” instead of Dough er tee.
