A lot of people who went last year will not go this year because of the cost.
Hope Geale has generated a lot of publicity about boxing in Tassie and it is well supported.

Like I said, very short sighted, they've taken the money and run from probably the best sporting stadium in the country where they had a very good set up and deal. Perhaps thats why a few commitee members resigned shortly afterwards. Whose idea was it to leave and did they canvas the rest of the members?

I would like to clarify a few things from questions raised in this thread.

After the past few years of dinners at the MCG (and prior to that at various venues around Melbourne), it was becoming increasingly more difficult to attract sponsors and the public numbers were dropping each year. As such, it was not financially viable to hold the dinner again at the MCG.

As such, we as a committee canvassed various organisations throughout Australia and the Country Club in Launceston were willing to put pen to paper for a 3 year sponsorship deal.

Now before anyone is misled, the dinner will be held in Tasmania for THIS YEAR ONLY. The sponsorship deal commenced last year, and will continue through next year, with the condition that ONE induction dinner is held at their venue, along with 2 other non induction events (a very successful golf day has already taken place in April and raised over $5000 for the local children's hospital).

Next year's dinner location is still on the table. It could be back in Melbourne, or move to Sydney or Brisbane (or elsewhere) where some interest has been received.

One thing I must point out to those who have been regular attendees in Melbourne over the years. We are sorry the venue has moved, but everybody must understand that this is a National organisation, and we are committed to exapanding our shows throughout Australia. Yes, our home base is in Melbourne where the display is held at the MCG within the National Sports Museum and we continue to have a good working relationship with those at the MCG.

This however doesn't remove the fact that the inductees are Australia wide, the HOF judges are Australia wide and the committee has representation outside of Melbourne also.

Thanks for your time to read this.
