Usually the so called A-side fighter has a rematch clause. Sometimes, it's a one way rematch clause. So the bigger draw stacks the deck and forces you to beat him twice to take his belts. Rematches should happen after a close fight and/or controversial decision.

Why should a guy like Spence get a rematch? Crawford gave him a good old fashioned one sided beatdown.

Sure. I thought fights like DLH-Quartey and DLH/Trinidad were were unwarranted as well. If it's in the contract, then why complain? Spence has every right to call for his rematch.

Off course its stupid! 90% of time.

But why it happend? Money. Money is answer.

You got 2 great, undefeeted fighter. They fight each other after long time waiting. For sure both want gdy paid as much as possible if they take risk.

In sport there is no reason for reematch but in business way ...

Rematch clauses get good fights over the line in negotiations.

Sadly boxing is business first, sport second. If one side has the leverage they will almost certainly abuse it with insurance policy like terms to reduce risk on their side, no shame these days.

Have no interest in seeing Crawford hammer Spence again. Stupid fight.

Very true. But they also can lead to pointless rematches, like Haney Kambosos 2.

Yes, but not the 2nd. The fight was settled properly the 1st go around.

Yes, but in order to get the first one made, the rematch clause was a requirement. It's fine to be "against" rematch clauses, but the fighters are not against them. They want them. Almost all of them. Fights that should have been happening haven't been happening.

Nobody wants to see II. But if you had to choose between seeing I and II or seeing neither, what would you choose?

What about one way rematch clauses for guys like Canelo and AJ. Not only do you have to beat them twice, but you have to beat the bribed judges twice too.

I think you might be crossing the streams a bit here.

If you’re a decorated long time champion who has put in work in boxing, you should be able to get a rematch if you want 1 loss don’t change all the work you put in.
If you the Lineal champ or the unified champ and been holding the titles defending vs the best, you should be able to get a rematch.
If you just got a title only defended it once or haven’t defended it at all, then nah you shouldn’t be entitled to one.

The time to disagree with rematch clauses is before the contracts are signed but often they won't get signed without it. Catch 22.
