Automatic Rematch is IMO justified from the sports side only in case the boxers have unfinished business. Like after the fight Fury Vs. Wilder 1. And where an automatic rematch should have been scheduled, no rematch was scheduled.

Quartey vs Oskee - there should've been a rematch. Were there clauses for those?

Automatic rematches make difficult fights possible, since they feel the risk is lower.

I hate them though, they are disgusting.

I've always said that fighters are not afraid of a beating in the ring, but there are many many fighters who are ridiculously afraid of losing. Those are cowards, because yes, it is cowardice. "Hey man! I'm not afraid of dying in the rind, yo!! I'm no coward" (says the coward while dodging like not tomorrow, even changing the weight if necessary).

The rematch clause helps those cowards to take the decission of fighting good fighters......... and we get fights that in any other way we wouldnt get.

I get your point, but what if Loma had a rematch clause with Lopez or Haney? There are situations were the clause is a benefit.

Regardless of how the first fight went, Spence deserves a re-match. He entered the ring a three belt Champion and that fact alone dictates a rematch. Because of his body of work, you have to give him the benefit of doubt that it was an off night for him. The same would have been true if Crawford had lost.

It is very stupid. Rematches just let the rest of the division sit out while a pointless fight for the belts happen. Even worse is that some of them take forever to make. Let’s say Spence does activate the rematch clause, there’s no way that fight would happen this year. It’s all just one big hold up most of the time.

If Loma had a rematch clause with Teo, it would've been an undeserved rematch.

Not really, although I am on record saying it was dumb of Loma to fight with an injury, a rematch would have answered the question on how much that inury played into Lopez's victory. Us boxing fans are a curious bunch. LOL

It wasn't close. Loma spent half the fight resting up and throwing ten punches a round. He took late rounds off of a fatiguing novice, then got his ass kicked in round 12 when Teo caught a second wind.

    Not close.

that & the promoter will lose his a$$ on purses
For the fighters on fights the general public could care less about.
It’s a loss for everybody but the fighter’s fighting the rematch.

Bull**** again. Loma won the second, then 7-11. All with a bad shoulder.

Loma was outlanded 11-5 in round 2 and didn't land any damaging punches. Were you impressed with his dance moves or something?

He was also outlanded 11-6 in round 7. He then got hit 50 times in round 12. 50. That's all she wrote.

    WTF were you watching?

It also locks up that belt for over a year and stalls other contenders from a shot at it.
