    * Whitaker's shutout of Ramirez went a long way toward improving his standing as one of the great all time lightweights- and righted one of the most egregious decisions in the history of boxing in the process.

Humberto Gonzalez basically saved his career losing most of it's momentum by coming out on top in his trilogy against Micheal Carbajal.

Ali vs Spinks 2 Ali should have stuck to his word and stayed retired.
Lennox Lewis vs Hasim Rahman 2 proved Rahman was a fluke champion
    SRL vs Duran 2
Roy Jones vs Montell Griffin 2 just because of Griffin's overacting to get himself a dq win.

If only he'd rematched JCC, could've gone 2 for 2 all told in that regard. :deal:

Ortiz was a bad mother****er in rematches. Avenged defeats on the way up to Busso and the excellent Kenny Lane (twice), put down Elorde and Ramos conclusively after they both put up stern resistance first time around, and he convincingly decisioned fellow ATG Laguna twice after Ismael upset him in their first encounter.

McCallum did well in the rematch against Kalambay after being on the end of a thorough schooling first time out. I thought that Sumbu edged their second fight too, but Mike restored his dignity considerably and came out of the traps far more quickly than before to pin Kalambay down with much greater success than previously.

Saldivar smashed Baby Luis in their rematch after being handed a somewhat odd disqualification loss in their initial encounter. Luis was a real talent who went off the rails rather drastically after a promising early career.

Walter McGowan won his flyweight title from Sal Burruni who had outhustled him previously for the European title and was himself beaten by Rudkin in a rematch after controversially taking their first fight.

    Jones hadn't peaked yet, either.

It was "boring" because Jones was too fast for Hopkins.

I agree, the rematch means little. Jones was done way before the rematch.

Doesn`t matter he wasn`t fast enough and nowhere near as fast as he was in their first match.

Plus Jones fought the first fight with a damaged right hand.

But a lot of people thought Tarver won the first fight even though it was a shitty bout.

Yes but Hearns was so much better in the first fight in terms of the offensive moves I watche him do in a film study, awesome fight, the second fight had less skill but more action and both men were a lot slower.

Jones was finished in the Calzaghe fight! He was awful, the knockdown was with the inside of his forearm Hopkins knockdown of Calzaghe was in a different league!

Yes I know, and lots of people thought Dave Tiberi beat James Toney, but Toney slunk away into the night with his legacy more or less unharmed by the close-call, while Tiberi faded into obscurity. Tarver dodged that same fate by fighting Roy the second time (which is what, in turn, opened every door for him since)

    ...okay, Weisenbutz.

I couldn't tell if you were being serious (or semi-serious) because some people have earnestly taken a position somewhat like that, with a dim & highly critical view of Hopkins' work at MW, as if he really did need the Jones rematch to cement his path to Canastota...not a position I agree with, but there is something to be considered when the majority do kind of murmur assent that Calzaghe doesn't get in w/o old Roy and old Bernard (so if the former is 1/2 of punching his ticket, why can't he be a factor in punching Hopkins', especially with the added wrinkle of it being a long outstanding revenge match?)
