the average age of Today heavyweight is 36 year old, I check the top 12 then the top 20 and I got the same result in between 35-36 with a lot of guys ready to roll over a year a lot of it has to do with longer amateur careers and later starts but compared to other era's how doe this pan out
It's a vast assortment of reasons why the average heavyweight contender is far older today than in previous decades. Today's athletes have a better understanding of the body, which leads to better nutrition, longer rest between bouts, prolonged careers in terms of years but with fewer bouts. Fewer bouts means less neurological damage and less burn out. Also longer amateur careers in many countries and longer nurturing process in countries that believe they have a marketable star like Amercia means an ascent to the top of the divsion happens later in life than at an early age. However the next generation may get to the top a little sooner than the current one. Parker, Joshua couple of other guys if they continue to have success will be top ten guys in their mid twenties might bring the age back down to like 32.
shorter bouts means less demand on cardio. fitness progressively falls off starting at age 30, but the 30somethings less feel the disadvantage with the fall off in fight length. its become almost acceptable for fighters to gass out before half the fight has transpired. plus the fall in standards means late starters can even carve a niche where they can find some limited success, whereas once upon a time they would get the shyte beaten out of them for lacking fundamentals by guys with 10 years more skills than them but of the same age. the fall in standards has allowed older fighters from previous eras to stay on and capitalise.
