Yes I believe so. Don King thought that was always a selling point to those bogus fights. Just like Buster Mathis Sr fought Ali

Yep, Tom McNeeley... I think Peter made between 400 and 500,000. Not bad

Chuck (Rocky Balboa) Wepner vs. Ali

    Mickey Ward vs. Gatti x3

Vaughn Bean got two title shots. He went the distance with Moorer and Holyfield in HW World Title fights. In 51 pro fights he hasn't beat anybody worth mentioning but he has had two World Title shots! He also got a big payday vs. Vitali Klitschko (LKOby11... his only KO loss) for the WBA Inter-Continental title.

Members of the "Bum of the Month" club vs. Joe Louis

Mathis had a much better resume going into the Tyson fight than McNeeley did though.

Buster Mathis Jr. had been in with decent fighters- Mike Hunter (ND12), Tyrell Biggs (W12), Sherman Griffin (W10), Riddick Bowe (NC4), and Alex Garcia (W12). Sure, he should have lost to Bowe and even Hunter but he had his moments in both fights. Mathis gave Tyson fits as well. If Mathis would have had power he would have lasted longer than 3 rounds with Tyson, because he had landed some clean shots.

With taht said Mathis does deserve to be on this list though

I think McNeely got knocked down something like 13 times before being stopped in his fight with Patterson.
