Awful performance by Rhodes

Rhodes didn't freeze on the night. People making it out like he had a bad night at the office. That's a load of ****. The difference in class was apparent before they fought. If he fought Canelo a hundred times, he'd almost surely lose every time. If Rhodes wasn't in survival mode and opened up earlier he would have been stopped earlier. Canelo beat him without getting out of first gear.

 

no shock really i could see it a mile off, sometimes on here nationalism comes before realism, this happened with most of the english here sat night yet when irish or scottish fans do it there laughed at, ah the irony

It's pretty funny. When the Irish and Scottish back the massive underdog, they are deluded. When the English do it, they simply slightly underestimated the opponent.

He took voluntary knees against Pavlik, getting back up wasn't a problem. I was actually a Lockett fan (in his early years), but in this fight he knew the money was in the bank, and he knew he wasn't fighting again. He simply decided he didn't want to go out like a warrior.

Unlike Lockett, I believe Rhodes really, really wanted to win.

 

The Rhodes fight left me deflated - I think blind optimism got the better of me....which is why I dont gamble hard cash!

I didnt expect rhodes to win even though i changed my alvarez tko 10 pick to rhodes tko in the league. However i was disapointed the fight was as one sided as it was. I expected at least a little success given the hatton performance, and maybe for rhodes to get a bit of respect..

 

I think part of the problem with the unrealistic expectations of how well Rhodes would do in this fight was his over rated win against Moore. Moore was weight drained and a shadow of himself, and Rhodes looked very good when he took advantage of this.

Still, I was never impressed that much with Alvarez until his performance against rhodes. Who was it that put Alvarez down or had him in trouble (I forget), was it Jose Miguel Cotto? Cotto is very average and he was handled fairly comfortably by Malignaggi recently. So, Alvarez looks very good now, but I think it is too early to start predicting greatness from him - he needs to prove it first against top level opposition.
