Since Cotto lost to Margarito, he should be below. But before he fought Margarito, he was ranked higher then Williams and deservedly.

So you're saying Williams could fight bums for the rest of his career, and Margarito could beat everyone else in the division, but Williams would still be ranked ahead of Margarito?

 

That seems to be the jist of it. And to be honest, I understand where these guys are coming from. To the simple minded, Williams should be ranked higher since he beat Margarito. But ranking aren't based on one H2H fight. Recent history is taken into consideration. Recent history shows Margarito with the better rebound wins.

On the other hand, maybe Cool Vince Phillips should always be ranked higher then Kostya Tszyu in an All Time sense. And Trevor Berbick is REALLY ranked higher then Ali.

 

No whining here, just stating the obvious. -the obvious lack of objectivity that goes into any discussion about people's favorite fighters...

Sorry about the whining comment then. But, stating the obvious WHAT is a good question? Are you reading the posts in this thread? Just about everyone has Williams above Cotto. So, for a lack of a better phrase, what the **** are you talking about?

And people do NOT need objectivity to determine a favorite fighter. People can be as irrational as they want when determining a fave. Again....WTF are you talking about?

 

Recent history? That Williams-Margarito fight was a little over a year ago, which is pretty recent relatively speaking. And when there is head to head history that is recent, it far outweighs the "resume" argument.

 

Your ass is dumber than I thought. First of all, I said "for those" not "everyone", so those who rank Williams higher than Cotto CLEARLY I AM NOT REFERRING TO!

Second of all, objectivity IS NEEDED when ranking fighters. The original post asks RANKING not "fave"... got it Einstein?

Yes...and how have they fared since? Who did they beat, and the rank of the guys they beat. Look, you really can't get around this. Cintron and Cotto were both ranked higher then Quintana. Quintana might've been in the lower ten at best (since he was demolished by Cotto before and didn't get any significant wins). So there's more to ranking then h2h. You way ignores all that.

I guess you would have to have Taylor as one of the greatest MW's, since he beat Hopkins right?

How could you possibly have Berto above Mosley? Berto's best win is Steve Forbes and even though Mosley's past it, he still did KO Mayorga.
