It's too hard to favor somebody here.....

Of course Chuck has the reach advantage, but if Tony got to his ribs....

Ayala's scintillating body attack could well be the key here lap! One is reminded of the Cuevas massacre at just 14 years of age.

Ayala never proved himself to be at an elite level. He was a great offensive fighter at the time, but his career was cut short before he could really prove his mettle. All we have is the myth. He could be hit and put on his ass, though.

You've got to be kidding here. Monzon stops this guy in 9. Ayala wasn't anywhere near being in the same class as Monzon. Tony would have his moments in the early rounds a land a few big shots, but would get discouraged when they would have no visible effect on Monzon. A guy with no real defense, he would he outsmarted and then really hurt by Carlos' right, visit the deck a few times and be stopped for the count in round 9 or 10. A huge differnce in class here. I couls even list a number of lesser middleweight kings of the past who would not just beat Ayala, but stop him. Rodrigo Valdez, Bernard Hopkins, of course Hagler, Dick Tiger, Gene Fullmer would have mauled him. Joey Giardello would have outslicked him all night, Emile Griffith would have outclassed him, Bennie Briscoe would have stopped him, Nino Benvenuti would have stopped him, and let's just say Sugar Ray Robinson would have given him the same treatment he gave Rocky Graziano, who would have taken him out, as would have Zale and Cerdan. Jake LaMotta, I almost forgot about him, he would have dominated Tony. Even the guy who all the fans have such a low opinion of, Hugo Corro had the skills to outpoint him. I think it would be fairer to Tony Ayala if you confined him to the junior middleweight division to find guys whom he might have a chance against.

Nothing I saw from Tony Ayala ever led me to believe he could beat a prime Carlos Monzon.

This must be a joke thread!

Carlos would murder Ayala. Ayala never beat an elite fighter. He was not in Monzon's league. Not even close.

He wasn't even a middleweight. He was a chubby Super Welterweight. Monzon would have raped Tony like Tony raped that girl.

Or maybe Tony might have murdered Monzon like Carlos murdered his wife.
