Chuko was something of a wunderkind at one point, going on a tear in his late teens with four consecutive victories that raised eyebrows (three of them previously unbeaten fellow prospects in Sergio "Tarasco" Nuñez, Ángel "Humilde" Rodríguez, and Braulio "El Chavo" Rodríguez, with the fourth being an upset over countryman Miguel Beltrán Jr. by KO) but has since gotten lost in the shuffle and languished on the domestic scene, falling to a mere 45% stoppage rate despite obviously packing dynamite when he feels like slinging it.

Torres is the local Tijuana fave, never really hit the same peaks of buzz, more of a lunch-pail grinder who kept his zero intact until his last match - but that was in 2018, and this is his first time competing since that defeat. A pressuring lefty, so-so in every department, his best win is probably over Adrian "Chinito" Yung.

 

Last few rounds devolved into foul-fests both ways (low blows from Torres, rabbit punches from Díaz, and unintentional but no less damaging headbutts from both) and now the contest appears to be over.

Díaz is fuming and keeps lurching from his corner and needing to be restrained while yelling at Torres, who is being administered to by the ringside physician. It would appear Chuko is of the mind that Rockanrollero is doing a little performative soccer player flopping...

Ruled a NC.

 

Cooler heads prevail and they're raising each other's arms in a sportsmanlike display of respect a few minutes later.

Ah well. Anticlimax but what can you do...

This could have been fun with a firmer-handed ref keeping things in check and forcing a cleaner fight on them.
