    Absolutely! People forget what a formidable fighter he was. I'd favour Nelson myself but to have an Azumah win as a forgone conclusion is ridiculous.

    Thats a very fair post. Cowdell was fighting at 130 and was probably on the downside anyway. Personally I think Nelson would have stopped McGuigan but the "ducking" thing never really happened, Barry was earning well and trying to build up the Irish support in America when he got beat. He'd only been WBA champ for a year or so, unification fights usually take longer than that to pan out.

    is that why they had him fight outside in the seering midday heat

    Well they fancied him to win that fight aswell as many outside his team, the heat was a huge factor and a shame but fighting Nelson would of been bad news for Barry imo and I think his team new this.

    They were right to fancy him but putting him out in the heat like that was crazy - for the first 10 rounds McGuigan was untoucable and the heat then set in and he lost his points lead in the last round when he was down three times - not a smart move by him team.

    I'd have made Azumah favourite to beat Barry but if who knows how it would have gone if he had it on in Ireland and the crowd behind him
