Azumah Nelson was awesome

I say it in here often Goo, absolutely. He flies under the radar a bit. ATG fighter.

 

I agree with all of this,Mr Magoo. In my opinion Azumah was the greatest fighter,P4P,African fighter. That ko of Pat Cowdell was chilling!!

 

Yeah, I’d probably rate Nelson above Dick Tiger as the greatest African fighter but I would hear the argument the other way. I’m a much bigger fan of The Professor, though.

 

He was Ok.

 

The hispter view of him here for a few years was that he was decent at a lot of things but a master of none, and was accordingly derided a bit when the talk turned to greatness. I thought that view was harsh and largely inaccurate, many great fighters were solid if not very good in many respects but not "great" in many. They were still great fighters. Never understood the logic of that argument.

 

Trivia fact - The nick The Professor was bestowed upon Azumah by an Australian boxing commentator/scribe. Very apt.

 

The ko of Jeff Fenech was highlight reel as well. Although Jeff may have been past it, it was something to watch.

Yeah, but see that's the thing. It's easy to look in the rear-view and say after the fact that Fenech had already seen his best days, but no one at all thought that leading up to their rematch. There was little reason to believe it wasn't going to play out as the first fight did. The way Nelson handled him was a big surprise to most.

 

Azumah is easily my favorite non-Philly fighter.

 

Zoom Zoom was indeed an awesome and fun fighter to watch. Just a strong, versatile, and smart fighter with so much confidence in his ability.

 

One of the best ever fighters at rematches aswell, which is why I think he possibly could've beat Sanchez in a rematch.
