Douglas, who was in there against Tony Tucker, winning till getting nailed verse Jerry Quarry who whipped lyle and kod Shavers? 12 rounds, who takes the honors?
The problem that Jerry Quarry had was that he had a hard time with movers. He showed that weakness against a post prime Muhammad Ali, in 1970, who had not had a boxing match in 3 and a half years, due to his Draft Evasion conviction in 1967. Jerry was having his problems in his match against Thad Spencer in 1968, until he stopped Thad in round 12. Jerry did give Joe Frazier a good match up until Joe stopped him in 7 rounds in June 1969. James Buster Douglas was a good counter puncher with decent movement, a snappy left jab, and a good right hand. Jerry would be in Buster's face from the start, taking punches and working on his body. Jerry Quarry stops Douglas in round 6, after weakening his body with hard left hooks.
Cheers Richard. Totally indecisive about this to begin with, then thought maybe Buster beats him on points. But seeing your post, give it some thought and remembered this Douglas basically fell to bits when Tucker got him. So perhaps, with Quarry working away at him, he does so here.!
That is what I am thinking. What problems with Spencer? He countered Spencer to death, ruining Spencer in the process.
