Robert Allen was dirtier and Mills had to push them apart strong since they were locked to each other, Bernard was outa balance and stumbling through the ropes and said he twisted the ankle, did you buy that, Jack? BTW, it was in AC, wasn't it, I can't recall?...

If you watch the fight strictly from an academic/historic perspective, Jones vs. Hopkins is fascinating. You had two world class athletes fighting through great anxiety -- first stiff test for each -- and canceling each others' best stuff out to a great extent.

Hopkins was very aggressive with his feet and made Roy uncomfortable, but the handspeed difference cowed Bernard. Both men fought very respectfully, and to be honest each looked scared.

Roy had a little too much speed for Bernard, and only when he put himself against the ropes did Hopkins get any consistent work done.

I'd favor Roy in a rematch anytime through 2000, 50/50 in 2001-02, then shifting to Hopkins 2003 and moving forward. Of course, I think Roy probably started juicing somewhere at the turn of the century, as he suddenly became very explosive again after looking a little slower against David Telesco. That night's Roy might have been taken by Hopkins.

It happened; the excuse of altitude to a point is fair; Quito is seriously high up (9,000+ feet).

If you need your memory jogged, it was the show where either King or one of his fighters, pissed off the hosts, and they all had to make a rather unseemly dash to the airport to get out the country double quick.
