B-Hop looked great with the extra weight, if he put on another 10-20lbs, how would he do vs some of the HVYWTS out there, remember he would not be matched for survivial skills, he is a master boxer and the speed would still be in his favor(unlike the Calzage fight) Do you think I am crazy or do you think because of his style and experience he could hang in there in the bigger weight division. He is 6"1 and still thin at 180, 20-25 lbs would be nothing...Thoughts?

He talked about fighting Maskeav last year, but nothing came of it. He's good, but he wouldnt want Peter or Chagdaev I dont think. ANd obvously Klitchko wouldnt even be considered.

I think he may have been able to outslick Maskaev, but he stands no chance against any of the current heavyweights, even with all of his talent.

He may not even have beaten Maskaev, but I would have liked his chances.

I think Bernard is done but I can't deny he looked the far bigger and stronger of the two on Saturday. His frame probably could hold enough weight to go to heavy. It is not unimaginable for him to outbox the likes of Peter ( whos so called devestating power is spectaculalry overrated ! )

Jones Jnr and Toney made the leap up to heavy well because there main attribute was speed. they were to fast for H/Ws and therefore won fights one points by out scoring them.

Hopkins is a negative, defensive fighter. A heavyweight would be able to throw him about, break his clinches and walk through his punches.

It would have been very embarrassing for hopkins had he fought Maskaev.

Bernard could beat a lot of heavyweights, there's a lot of mediocrity there, but he would have to be carefully matched. As for the champs, Klitschko would be out of the question of course. Chagaev would outscore him, maybe even stopping him. Bernard may have his best chance against Peter, he may be able to outwit him.

Cruiserweight yeah maybe.... but not heavyweight. He won't stand a chance against a 6 "5" guy.

    Maskaev is slower than dog****.

Hopkins may have had a chance.

There were rumors of Hopkins going to heavyweight to fight Maskaev in late 2006.

That was Hopkins hype that he needed a challenge to stay motivated and in the game - facing Oleg for the WBC HWT Title... I don't know how much Roy and James winning Heavyweight titles had to do with it but Hopkins would not add anything to the Division. The WBA let Jones and Toney win titles ( and vacate) and the WBC would let Hopkins do the same... it's just the proof that this is all about money and corruption.

Yeah, because Maskaev was one of the weakest hw-champions of all time. Hopkins never mentioned another hw-guy. For example, someone who isn't slow and doesn't have a bad defense.

True, but the same could be said of Jones. You didn't hear Jones (seriously) calling out Lennox.

    He went after Ruiz.

In an era of big fat heavies who have an allergy to serious training, Bernard Hopkins would have an excellent chance of beating most of them. It was amazing to watch him neutralize Calzaghe's speed and reach advantage. I am not sure how he would handle Klitschko, but it would be interesting to see if he overcome the big Ukrainian's strength advantage while trying to work him on the inside. Presumably Maskaev would have had the same strength advantage, so one would wonder how Hopkins planned to deal with him on the inside?
