According to GBP's Bernard Hopkins Vasyl Lomachenko (9-1) will prove to big and powerful for Guillermo Rigondeaux (17-0) in their December 9 fight at the MSG. Moving up 8lbs at such a low weightclass is to big a gap to overcome for Rigo and he will be stopped in the later rounds by the bigger man. Taking B-Hop's prediction streak into account, are we overlooking Rigo in this bout? It's not like Hopkins is anyway near Teddy Atlas when it comes to bogus predictions, but I 'm starting to wonder if I'm missing something here.
Hmm im not so sure. Loma's almost the complete package but if there's one thing he lacks it's KO power. And Rigo ain't exactly easy to hit
Rigo is very strong. His power could carry. Loma's going to box him, not walk through him. It's disappointing all of the guys who talked Rigo up so much for all these years - based on one close fight with Donaire - are making excuses now that Rigo is facing a potentially better boxer. They have all their excuses ready.
How will the extra muscle mass affect him? Plus he's late 30s ... Not sold on his chin either. Loma should win here but when u have Rigo type skill you can't count him out...
Like I predicted accurately in other fights, the size difference is not going to be as pronounced as people are expecting. Loma is not going to walk through him. Rigo is strong and has the reach advantage.
There won't be extra muscle mass, the guy was hydrating as high as 128 5 years ago. He just won't be cutting as much weight, that's all.
I suspect Loma will be slightly heavier, but probably no more than 5 pounds. But yeah, fighters rarely bulk up anymore, they are already cutting so much weight, a "move up" is just a decrease in cutting.
