Dan Rafael's just tweeted this as well. It'll be on HBO - don't know why they're wasting their money on this atsch
Because it's been mandated by the WBC, and Hopkins has one fight left on his HBO contract. I imagine if he wins this fight he'll make a deal with Showtime to fight Bute in Montreal before the year is out. I don't see Andre Ward fighting him this year, for whatever reason, and I think it's the next best option for Bute if Ward isn't available and Showtime don't want Bute/Froch.
You mean Ward fighting Bute? Yeah, Ward doesn't seem too interested in that, but somehow it's Bute's fault! Such a dreadful fight to make - it started off negative and sloppy and it was going to end that way too.
Yeah, Ward seems lukewarm at best on the Bute subject. I'm not sold on Bute yet, but if he and his promoters have negotiated a fight with Matchroom for Froch only for Showtime to turn it down as they want Ward/Bute, but Ward doesn't, how is it Bute's team's fault? Hopkins seemed to get a good reception from the fans in Montreal, and has been very complimentary of them since the Pacal fights. I think he's had one eye on a fight with Bute, and wouldn't be shocked if it happens this year at all. A win over Hopkins wouldn't propel Bute into mega-stardom, but it might increase his name value or the desire for Ward/Bute to the point that Ward's team accept that it's the best fight out there for him.
