Hmm? I thought I was alone by not thinking too highly of Hopkins. Not that he wasn't a champion, but I think he pales compared with other great middleweights

Hopkins stacks up to any middleweight in history.

But we ain't talking about a middleweight here.

Saw Bob Foster defend his title live in 1969 against Andy Kendall. Bob Foster by KO over Hopkins...

Foster via UD thanks to Hopkins defense and durability. Hopkins would be covering up, and not eager to exchange.

Foster's jab alone would give Hopkins lot of problems.

Oh I think that is to simplistic of an answer. Hop’s certainly used strategy in the twilight of his career and I agree he is not likely to move up and face a prime Foster (although TBF wouldn’t totally shock me), but say around the time he is flirting with moving to LHW and it is 75 Foster standing there...I think Hops could arguably move up and challenge him.

    Just my $0.02

I don't think the fight would have happened. That was my point.

I wouldn't overly take anyone over him at 160 except SRR at his absolute 160 best. The man could fight and boy was he ring smart.

People are way off on Hopkins.

Yes a boring style especially the older he got but an exceptionally tough man with a great chin and craftyness.

Almost impossible to stop until he was truly ancient.

People who don't understand the hustler mentality think all those times he flopped around after an innocuous looking foul was a sign of weakness but really it was just him taking any possible advantage to win.

Foster by 8-4 type decision is the correct call.

In general people seem to imagine fantasy matches ending up in stoppages more times than they actually would.

Especially in this case with Hopkins it's unlikely.

Stoppages happen alot at HW, when fighters are out of shape and gass out or when they are declining and their defense and punch resistance fails them. Other than that the majority of elite vs elite fights go the distance
