Eviscerated, road kill, torn to shreds...sounds pretty graphic lol. I do think Qawi wins 8-4 or so, I just don’t see a dismantling like mentioned. Hops would slow it down and it would devolve into a slow counterpunching affair, where Hops would not be busy enough or willing to push exchanges on the inside to do enough to win a decision. I just think he was too good and smart to get roped into something where he gets stopped let alone disemboweld.
I don’t necessarily disagree with you, I just think Hops would try use a Michael Spinks approach (although I am not contrasting Spinks and Hopkins or claiming equality of them as LHW’s), and try to keep it at a manageable range. I think he would execute it (no pun intended) well enough to survive, but not enough to pull out a victory. Perhaps you are correct, although we will never know with certainty. I do feel Qawi would win decisively, but I also envision Bernard leaving the ring with bowels in tact and for the most part fully functional.
Hi all, its all just opinion but I believe Hopkins is being a bit underrated here and Dwight a tad overrated by some. Dwight had all kinds of problems with Johnny Davis who nearly had Dwight's number. I don't think Davis was any better than a prime Bhops at 175 and he was also a cutie like Hopkins. I would give the prime Hopkins up to say the Trinidad fight a 30-40 % chance of outboxing and winning a close nod over Qawi. Hopkins had a great chin, a large height advantage and a decent reach advantage over Dwight. If I was betting my money would be on Qawi ( depending on the odds of course ) but I reckon Bhops is being given a disservice here by some. Cheers All.
Johnny Davis fought Braxton 3 times...1978, 1981, and in 1983 , Davis won one by SD (1978), and lost by MD (1981) and SD (1983). Fight #3 (1983) This content is protected Fight #2 (1981) This content is protected
I love B-hop but I just don't see him having the firepower or clinch game to completely smother Qawi.
I'm inclined to agree. Qawi was much more constant in his attack with cleaner crisper combos than Pascal. He's a brilliant tough technical steam roller. He's also clearly a physically much stronger fighter. I think he stops B-Hop late.
I have no idea why the 2010 version of Hopkins is being utilized. He was much better when he first moved up 4 1/2 years earlier and he was 40yrs old + even then. I'd favor Qawi by decision. He was a natural 175 and a damn good one. The very good big man is beating the great smaller one here i reckon.
I just don't think he has the firepower to do it. He could clinch and smother but despite being the shorter guy I think he out muscles Hopkins inside. He does enough damage to win an ugly fight. Dwight was bigger, but also a good technician in his own right.
I agree with pretty much all of this. Unlike Spinks I don't think Hop has the pop to keep Qawi honest. I think Hop would gradually go into spoiler mode as Qawi hunts him down - Qawi was pretty smart let's remember. I actually think that Qawi could possibly stop Hopkins, especially over 15. Hopkins had a very good chin but Qawi was a beast of a LHW & might gound Bernard down for an on the ropes stoppage or a corner retirement.
I dont think you could build a worse matchup for Hopkins. If guys like Qawi were at 75 when Bernard was there he would have stayed at 60 or 68.
